Great Danes Fall to K-State on the Road

Short Story: The University at Albany men's basketball team fell on the road to Big 12 foe K-State on Wednesday night, 43-71.
 
Key Stat Lines
  • UAlbany shot 31.5% (17-54) from the field compared to K-State's 46.4% (26-56). UAlbany was only 1-18 from beyond the arc. K-State took advantage of the three-point line, going 38.5% (10-26) from three.
  • The Great Danes were out-rebounded by the Wildcats, 27-48.
  • De'Vondre Perry led UAlbany with 11 points. He went 5-10 from the field, adding two blocks and a steal.
  • Ny'Mire Little followed with seven points in 15 minutes of action.
  • Justin Neely once again led the team in rebounds, hauling in seven in just 18 minutes of work.
  • Jamel Horton dished out four of the team's seven assists.
Head Coach Dwayne Killings: "Hats off to Kansas State, I thought they played a really good basketball game. I thought we made a pretty good run, a good impression into the game, then I think the intensity went up from them. They made it harder for us to shoot the ball and we became stagnant."

How it Happened:
  • By the first media timeout, UAlbany trailed 8-5. Matt Cerruti hit a three to open the scoring for UAlbany, Horton added his first bucket of the night. K-State's Nijel Pack hit two threes to start for the Wildcats.
  • UAlbany took a 12-11 lead with 11:49 remaining in the first half after Perry scored his second FG of the night. UAlbany scored five straight to take the lead, their second of the night early on.
  • By the halfway point of the first, K-State had seven turnovers compared to just two from UAlbany.
  • The Wildcats used a 6-0 run to re-take the lead after falling behind 13-11.
  • After UAlbany tied the game at 17-17, the Wildcats went on a quick 7-0 run to take the advantage heading into the final media timeout. K-State would score another four after the break to push the lead to double-digits before a Neely jumper stopped the run at 11-straight points.
  • At halftime, Jarvis Doles led the team with five points. He hit all three foul shots early in the first half after being fouled beyond the arc. Perry followed with four points, and led the team with five rebounds. Horton had three assists for UAlbany.
  • The Great Danes shot just 25.0% (7-28) from the field to open the game, compared to K-State's 45.5% (10-22).
  • UAlbany was only able to convert on one of nine three-point attempts to start. K-State shot 36.4% (4-11) from beyond the arc in the first half.
  • Two consecutive threes from K-State pushed the lead to 15 points to start the second half. The Wildcats hit three of their first four three-pointers, outscoring UAlbany 11-4 in the first few minutes of the second frame.
  • By the midway point of the second half, K-State outscored UAlbany 23-9 – shooting 56.3% (9-16) from the field, hitting 5-of-8 from three-point range.
  • UAlbany ended up shooting 38.5% (10-26) from the field in the second half, K-State shot 47.1% (16-34). The Wildcats outscored the Great Danes in the second frame 42-23.
