Women's Basketball Closes Early Season Road Streak in Boston

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University at Albany women's basketball will close a three-game road streak at Boston College on Sunday, November 28.
 
Masks will be required inside all buildings on campus.

GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany opened the season with a 29-point victory over Hofstra (11/10), beating the Pride for the first time in program history.
  • Most recently, the Great Danes fell from a buzzer-beating three-pointer at Cornell (11/24) after a loss at Merrimack (11/16).
  • Senior Ellen Hahne leads the team with 33 points, shooting a team-high 44% (5-9) from outside the arc and 5-6 from the free-throw line for a team-high 83%.
  • Junior Helene Haegerstrand tallied 16 points at Cornell and now follows Hahne with 32 points on the season. Haegerstrand has made 50% of her shots from the field (13-26).
  • Senior Lucia Decortes had a breakout game in Ithaca to own a season team-high 64% shooting percentage from the field (7-11). The forward has totaled 18 rebounds, 11 offensive, leading the team in both total and offensive rebounds.
  • Redshirt-sophomore Morgan Haney follows with 17 total rebounds and a team-high 15 defensive rebounds.
  • Freshman Lilly Phillips has totaled seven assists while Decortes leads with three blocks.
  • Every single player from the 13-person roster saw action and contributed with a point or an assist in the season-opening game. 
  • Of the 168 points scored in three games, the bench has tallied 67 points. This includes half (26) of the 52 points scored at Merrimack.
  • As a team, UAlbany is hitting 37.4% from the field, 32.3% outside the arc, and 56.3% from the free-throw line. The Great Danes are averaging 56.0 points per game, 41.0 rebounds per game, and 13 assists per game.

PAST CONNECTIONS
  • Before making her most recent stop at Boston College, head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee served as the Great Danes' head coach for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. 
  • During the 2016-17 season, Bernabei-McNamee coached UAlbany to win the America East Championship Tournament and take on the NCAA Tournament. The Great Danes finished with a 21-12 overall record and a 12-4 conference record.
  • In 2017-18, her team tallied just eight losses with 24 wins overall.

WHAT'S UP, PRESEASON
  • The Great Dane women's basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll. With six first-place votes and 78 total points, Stony Brook was voted to finish first with Maine just behind (74 points, three first-place votes). 
  • UAlbany added four new players to the roster for the 2021-22 season - Koi Sims, Lilly Phillips, Abby Ray, and Freja Werth

  • UAlbany has expanded its partnership with ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team and City Line Bar & Grill.
  • Coaches Colleen Mullen and Dwayne Killings, along with select student-athletes, will join ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team's Charlie Voelker and Dan Bahl every Monday from 6-7 pm live from City Line Bar & Grill for a weekly segment entitled 'Drive the Lane with UAlbany Hoops'.
  • Fans are invited to come out to City Line Bar & Grill to join Coach Mullen, Coach Kills, the student-athletes, and the ESPN Radio 104.5 The Team crew. 
  • Food and drink specials will be available on a weekly basis as the teams embark on their new seasons and talk hoops every Monday.
