SHORT STORY: The Great Danes came out of the gates firing to take the match over Binghamton with a three-set sweep, Friday night.
 
COACH JOSH PICKARD: "Earning the sweep, it was a great effort by the team tonight. All seven of our seniors contributed and I'm extremely proud of all of them and what they mean to Great Dane Volleyball. They have been a part of continuing our success and are great people on and off the court. I'm excited to see what lies ahead for each of them."
 
KEY STATS

• Freshman Oren Abutbul led the team with 13 kills and a.423 hitting percentage.
• Senior Grace Cozad and graduate student Danielle Tedesco followed with eight kills each.
• Senior Charlotte Macken tallied 26 digs while junior Malea Stanton and freshman Elaina Wamhoff tied with 18 assists each.
• Tedesco totaled a team-high seven blocks, including one solo block.
• As a team, the Great Danes outhit the Bearcats, .256-.084.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• UAlbany started the match with three points before Binghamton tallied six straight to take the 6-3 lead.
• Play remained back-and-forth with the Bearcats extending their lead to 13-9 before the Great Danes tied the set score at 13.
• UAlbany tallied a seven-point scoring run that Binghamton could not overcome to take the first set, 25-23.
• The second set began even but the Great Danes quickly earned a 6-2 advantage before adding a seven-point scoring run to take a 13-3 lead.
• UAlbany continued to add a couple of points for every Binghamton tally to take the second set, 25-11.
• The Bearcats opened the third set with four straight points before the Great Danes got on the board. 
• After tying the score at nine, UAlbany quickly gained and held on to a two-point lead before taking the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0.

 
NEXT: The Great Danes will compete at the 2021 America East Championship Tournament, beginning with the semifinals on Friday, November 19.
