On the Road Again – Football Travels to Face Towson

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany football team will head on the road again, this time traveling to Maryland for a matchup against conference rival Towson. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. EST, and will be streamed on FloFootball and broadcast on 104.5 FM The Team ESPN Radio in Albany.

Towson is a good, physical football team. They’ve played very well at times, especially at home. They’re great at home, they’ve beat up on some people this year. It should be a great football game.

Leading the Pack

  • The FCS teams UAlbany has faced this year have a combined record of 29-13.
  • Jackson Ambush continues to lead the team in tackles at 61 (34 ua, 27a), which is fifth in the CAA. He is followed by Danny Damico at 45 (24 ua, 21 a) and Larry Walker Jr. at 40 (26 ua, 14 a). Also recording sacks this season for the Great Danes is Jared Verse, Anthony Lang, AJ Mistler, Ibn Foster and Damon Burton. 
  • Verse leads the team in sacks at 6.5, good enough for a second-place ranking in the conference. Verse also leads in tackles for loss 8.5, followed closely by Lang with eight. 
  • The UAlbany squad has done a good job this year drawing penalties from opposing teams. The Great Danes lead the CAA in opponent penalties, averaging 77.57 yards per game. In comparison, Richmond sits in second drawing just 52.43 yards per game. 
  • Karl Mofor leads the Great Danes offense with four rushing touchdowns. Tyler Oedekoven leads in receiving touchdowns with two, behind him ? Mofor, Gray, Alexander, Wesneski, McAdams, and Lewis (defense) each with one.

Scouting Towson

This Saturday will mark the fourth home game for the Tigers in the 2021 season. The Tigers have won their last two games at home, besting Stony Brook (21-14) and Rhode Island (28-7). To open their 2021 season, the Tigers defeated Morgan State (31-0), leaving them scoreless on September 4th. Towson has since played New Hampshire (14-26), North Dakota State (7-35) and San Diego State (21-48), all resulting in a loss for the Tigers. Most recently, the Tigers played at William & Mary, unable to recover from a first quarter deficit, the Tigers eventually fell to the Tribe.

Last Time Against Towson

The last time the two CAA foes met was in October of the 2019 season. In 2019, No. 9 Towson hosted the Great Danes, who sealed a 38-21 victory on the road in Maryland. In that game, Jeff Undercuffler completed 23 of 30 passes for 380 yards and two touchdowns, his 19th and 20th of the 2019 season. Karl Mofor ran for 130 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns. UAlbany sacked the Towson quarterback four times, two of which came from UAlbany great Eli Mencer. UAlbany dominated the time of possession, holding the ball for 35:38 compared to Towson's 24:12. The victory over the Tigers marked the third straight victory when facing a top 10 ranked opponent, also defeating No.7 Villanova in 2017 and No. 10 Stony Brook in 2018.

Three CAA Football teams were ranked in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll released on Monday. Villanova (No. 4), James Madison (No. 5), and Rhode Island (No. 24). In addition, William & Mary and Delaware both received votes in the latest poll. Last week’s results from around the CAA can be found below.
