GREAT DANE REWIND
  • UAlbany opened their home slate with the Crowne Plaza Albany - The Desmond Hotel Volleyball Classic on September 3. The Great Danes closed the tournament defeating Cornell, 3-1 on Sept. 4. 
  • UAlbany opened their season with a 1-2 record at the Syracuse Tournament (Aug. 27-28), defeating UB (Aug. 28), 3-0, for their first win of the season, before beating Marist, 3-1, on Tuesday (Aug. 31). The Great Danes traveled to Texas for the Texas A&M Invitational (Sept. 10-11) and competed in the Jayhawk Classic hosted by the University of Kansas (Sept. 17-18).
  • Closing out their non-conference season, UAlbany hosted Siena for a 3-0 match in the first-ever School Supplies Night (Sept. 22). 
  • The Great Danes began America East play with a 3-2 loss at Binghamton (Sept. 26).
  • UAlbany is currently on a three-game win streak (all conference games), defeating Hartford for a 3-0 victory on October 8 and taking a 3-1 win at NJIT on October 10 after beating Stony Brook (10/3). 
  • Junior Kamara Kelly leads the offense with 168 kills and freshman Oren Abutbul holds the second highest with 165 kills. Kelly also holds the slight lead with 2.51 kills/set to Abutbul's 2.50.
  • Junior Malea Stanton and freshman Elaina Wamhoff serve as the team's main setters. Stanton leads with 340 assists and 5.15 assists/set. Wamhoff follows with 283 assists and 4.22 assists/set.
  • Senior Charlotte Macken owns a team-high on both offense and defense. She leads with 25 service aces, 276 digs, and 4.12 digs/set. 
  • Freshman Anissia Wong leads the blockers with 68.0 total blocks, including seven solo blocks, and 1.01 blocks/set.
  • Other Great Dane standouts include graduate student Danielle Tedesco (second on the team with 53.0 total blocks and third with 142 kills and 2.25 kills per set) and Regan Wright (second on the team with 14 service aces, 135 digs, and 2.33 digs/set).
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
  • The Wildcats opened the season with a 1-2 record at the Mercer Tournament (Aug. 27-28). 
  • New Hampshire followed with a 2-1 finish at the Holly Young Invitational (Sept. 2-4) before tallying a win over Holy Cross in a midweek match on Sept. 8.
  • Before beginning conference play, the Wildcats headed to an in-state tournament hosted by Dartmouth for a 1-2 record (Sept. 10-11) before sharing hosting duties with Merrimack for their own tournament (Sept. 16-18). 
  • With a 7-6 record, New Hampshire hosted Hartford to win its first America East game on Sept. 26.
  • The Wildcats followed their conference opened with a loss to UMBC (Oct. 1) and a victory over NJIT (Oct. 3).
  • Most recently, New Hampshire fell against Stony Brook (Oct. 8) and UMBC (Oct. 10).
  • Abby Sullivan leads with 138 kills while Kelly Kaufman follows with 125 kills.
  • On defense, Mia Pagliarini leads the team with 291 digs and Kelly Kaufman owns a team-high 52.0 blocks.
  • Named America East Setter of the Week on Sept. 7, 2021, Wren Macaulay is ranked first on the team with 598 assists. The junior also leads the team with 26 service aces.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE WILDCATS
  • The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 28-27.
  • In their last meeting, the Wildcats won due to a forfeit by UAlbany on March 28.
  • Prior to that, UAlbany won the match on Feb. 28, 3-1.
  • During the February contest, Noa Brach and Kamara Kelly led the offense with 15 kills each while Malea Stanton and Charlotte Macken led the defense with 22 digs each. Stanton also talled a team-high 25 assists and two service aces while Brach owned a team-high four blocks against the Wildcats. 
 
ABOUT HARTFORD
  • The Hawks completed the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 2-11 record.
  • Hartford went 0-3 at the Boston College Invitational (Aug. 27-28) in Chestnut Hill, Mass., before going 1-2 at the Yale Invitational (Sept. 3-4) capturing a 3-2 win against Quinnipiac University.
  • The Hawks won all three sets against Merrimack College but fell to host, Rhode Island, and Rider in the Rhode Island Invitational (Sept. 10-11).
  • Hartford hosted their home invitational on September 16-18, playing against Central Connecticut, Dartmouth and Brown for three losses before tallying a 3-1 loss against Bryant (Sept. 21).
  • The Hawks opened conference play with three losses against New Hampshire (Sept. 26), UMBC (Oct. 3), and UAlbany (Oct. 8).
  • The Hawks went on to win their first America East conference match against Binghamton (Oct. 10).
  • Camryn Luginbuhl leads the team with 224 kills, averaging 3.86 kills/set.
  • Morgan Galligan serves as the main setter, totaling 467 assists, for a 8.05 assists per set average.
  • On defense, Alex Lucero leads with 279 digs and Valerie Diede leads with 51 blocks, including a team-high 14 solo blocks.
 
SERIES AGAINST THE HAWKS
  • The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 30-1.
  • UAlbany holds a 22-match win streak including both matches throughout the 2020 season.
  • The first game of the 2020-21 season saw a 3-0 win on March 21, 2021. Kamara Kelly led the team overall with 10 kills and nine digs. Other standouts included Danielle Tedesco (nine kills), Charlotte Macken (10 digs), and Malea Stanton (18 assists).
  • In a second 3-0 win, Kelly led the offense with 11 kills and Macken led the defense with 15 digs on March 22, 2021.
  • Earlier this year, UAlbany defeated Hartford, 3-0, on October 8. Tedesco led with 12 kills and four blocks while Macken tallied 14 digs and Stanton totaled 19 assists.
 
AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
  • UMBC remains as the sole undefeated team in the America East with a 5-0 record.
  • UAlbany follows with a 3-1 conference record.
  • Stony Brook and Binghamton remained tied for third with a 2-2 record.
  • New Hampshire holds a .400 win percentage with their 2-3 record.
  • Hartford earned their first conference win on Sunday, Oct. 10, sitting with a 1-3 record. 
  • NJIT round out the America East, still looking for their first conference win.

WHAT'S UP, PRESEASON
  • The Great Dane volleyball team was picked to finish first in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll. UMBC and New Hampshire were voted into a tie for second place.
  • UAlbany added seven new players to the roster for the 2021 season.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Great Danes will return home for an America East match against UMBC on October 22 before heading back on the road for their final non-conference game at Sacred Heart, Tuesday (Oct. 26).
