Coach Brown: "I thought it was a physical game.  Maine has really good length and size, and Andrew Fleming is a tremendous talent.  We knew it was going to be a physical game.  I thought we did a good job forcing tempo, trying to speed them up and not allow them to get into a rhythm.  We were strong and aggressive with the ball.  On a night where we didn't shoot very well we got to the line.  I thought we stopped playing a little bit in the last three minutes of the game and allowed them to get back in it.  We'll watch the film and get better at that so we can make sure we keep a double-digit lead.  We just have to finish the job.  But it was a good win for us."

Recap

The University at Albany men's basketball team set four program records Saturday afternoon in their 76-70 victory over Maine, the team's first home game since December 14.  Collectively, the Great Danes set single-game program records for free-throws made (36) and attempted (47), while senior guard Ahmad Clark set the same records for an individual player, making 19 free throws on 24 attempts.

The previous team record for free throws came on January 13, 2018, when the Great Danes shot 35-44 from the line.  Clark broke the existing record of 16-18 shooting from the line on March 8, 2008 by Brian Lilllis against Boston University.

Maine finally scored for the first time with 14:25 remaining in the first half.  The Black Bears quickly cut the Great Danes' lead in half, hitting a three on their following possession

With 13:30 to go, JoJo Anderson entered the game for the first time, marking his first appearance in SEFCU Arena.  Anderson made his season debut at Monmouth, drawing a spot in the starting lineup after sitting out the year's first 13 games due to injury.

Adam Lulka hit two free throws to snap Maine's streak and put UAlbany up 12-5.  With 10:52 to go, Maine had capped off a 6-0 run to cut UAlbany's lead to one.  The Danes pulled away to go up 16-11 before the Black Bears hit a three to bring the game to 16-14.

A 6-1 run late in the first half brought the Black Bears within two points.  UAlbany had not scored in nearly three minutes before Clark drew an and-one on a transition layup, ultimately putting UAlbany up 34-29 with 1:50 remaining in the first.

Clark led all scorers at the break with 19 points, 11 of which came from the free-throw line.  The Great Danes shot just 6-20 from the floor in the first, but scored 21 points at the line.

Maine quickly tied the game with a 4-0 run to start the second half, and took their first lead after hitting one of two free throws to go up 37-36 with 18:05 to go.  Cameron Healy put UAlbany back on top, converting a layup and-one with 17:37 remaining.

With 15:28 to go in the second, Healy hit his first three-pointer of the game, extending his made-threes streak to 49 games.  Healy's basket put UAlbany up five.

Maine cut the lead to one, 44-43, with 13:25 to go after a three-pointer.  UAlbany briefly pulled away before Maine tied the game at 46 and went up 47-46 before UAlbany responded with a 7-0 run to go up 54-47 with 9:28 to go.

UAlbany took a 10-point lead when Trey Hutcheson grabbed an offensive rebound and drew a foul on a layup with 6:46 remaining.  With 4:10 remaining, UAlbany led the Black Bears by 16, the largest lead of the night.

Maine went on to score the next nine points to cut the Danes' lead to seven with 2:23 to go.  The Black Bears closed within five twice in the final 2:12 but ultimately fell by six, 76-70.

Clark led all scorers with 29 points, despite shooting just 4-11 from the floor.  Clark drew 17 fouls during the game to earn his 24 free throw attempts.  Hutcheson finished with 15 points, all of which came in the second half.  Maine locked down UAlbany on the perimeter, holding the Great Danes to 6-24 shooting from deep.
