BOSTON – University at Albany freshman Leah Pais has been named 2019 America East Rookie of the Year, the conference offices announced Monday.
Pais, who was named to the 2019 All-Rookie team on Friday, is UAlbany's second-straight Rookie of the Year winner, following teammate Jada Colbert in 2018, and fourth since 2014. She was named alongside the other major award winners: Striker of the Year Alyssa Francese from Stony Brook, Midfielder of the Year Sierra Stone from Hartford, Defender of the Year Kimmy Chavkin from Stony Brook, Goalkeeper of the Year Sofia Manner from Stony Brook, and Coaching Staff of the Year from Stony Brook.
Pais, a forward from Mississauga, Ontario, ranks third on the team with four goals and 10 points, and has also recorded two assists. She has appeared in 13 games this season, and made both penalty kicks she attempted.
Pais and her teammates return to action on Thursday, November 7 against three-seed Hartford in the America East semifinal round at Casey Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
