Key Stats

  • Kaio DaSilva tallied his third goal of the season.
  • Andrew Weiner notched his first goal of the season and of his collegiate career.
  • UAlbany outshot Cornell 13-11.
  • The Great Danes had six corner kick opportunities to the Big Red's four.

Coach Gorman: “Tonight was a classic midweek October game. The weather made it hard for a lot of passes to be connected so it was very tight. Our guys rebounded to a sluggish first half with the kind of effort required to grind out a win. We are pleased with the win and looking forward to the weekend.”

Recap

Led by a goal with 16 seconds left in regulation by Kaio DaSilva, the University at Albany men's soccer team won its fifth straight game with a 2-1 victory over Cornell. The Great Danes have now defeated the Big Red in their last three meetings.

In the first half, the Big Red took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when Brady Dickens fought through contact to beat Kennedy.

At halftime shots were even between the two teams with four apiece, but only one was on goal for UAlbany.

In the second half, Andrew Weiner got the Great Danes the equalizer in the 60th minute. After Sam Philip took a shot that the Cornell goalkeeper made a diving stop on, Weiner was right in front to put the rebound into the net.

Niklas Roessler almost secured the go-head goal for UAlbany in the 77th and 89th minute, hitting the crossbar and then having a breakaway shot that the Cornell goalie was able to make the save on.

DaSilva put the game away with 16 seconds left in regulation after Roessler sent a pass that led to a breakaway opportunity, securing the 2-1 win.

UAlbany is 8-1-1 in its last 10 games, and has outscored its opponents 13-4 during the five-game winning streak.
