Recap

Eli Mencer brought back a fumble 80 yards for a touchdown in overtime to complete the University at Albany's 19-10 victory over No. 7/8 Villanova on Saturday night at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

The win was the program's first over a Top 10 opponent and the first over Villanova, who'd beaten UAlbany in the teams' first three meetings.

Ethan Stark kicked two field goals and Karl Mofor also scored on a 4-yard touchdown run for the Great Danes, who bounced back in overtime after giving up the game-tying touchdown with no time remaining in regulation.

UAlbany's defense limited Villanova to 254 total yards, as the Great Danes dominated the time of possessions. UAlbany also recovered three fumbles and finished with nine points off turnovers.

The Great Danes went ahead, 10-3, with 2:23 left in regulation when Mofor scored to finish off a 15-play, 71-yard drive that took 8:03.

The drive was kept alive by quarterback Will Brunson's 10-yard completion to Jordan Crockett on a 4th and 3 from the Villanova 35 and also his 11-yard scramble on a 3rd and 10 from the Villanova 25.

But Villanova evened the score with no time remaining on Bednarczyk's 2-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Forbes.

The frantic finish capped what had been a defensive struggle.

Stark's 23-yard field goal four seconds into the second quarter was the only scoring in the first half. It came at the conclusion of an 18-play, 76-yard drive that ate up 10:26 of the clock

The UAlbany defense kept Villanova off the board until 10:33 remained in the fourth quarter, when Drew Kresge kicked a 24-yard field goal to tie the game.
