Men?s Soccer Drops Rhode Island 1-0

KINGSTON, R.I. – In its fourth consecutive road game, the University at Albany men's soccer team (3-2-1) outlasted Rhode Island (3-3-1) by a score of 1-0.

Sophomore defender Daniel Krutzen scored the first goal of his career.  Krutzen ripped a shot from 15 yards out on a pass from Afonso Pinheiro.  The shot deflected off of Rhode Island's goalkeeper, Chad Fox, and into the net.

Until Krutzen's goal, the game had gone scoreless for the first 75 minutes.  UAlbany maintained pressure on Rhode Island's defense throughout the first half, generating six shots to Rhode Island's two, but could not find the back of the net.  The teams took five shots apiece in the second half, but only UAlbany managed to capitalize on its attempts.

“We are happy to earn another win away from home,” said head coach Trevor Gorman.  “We felt we created good chances and had our opportunities.  Fortunately, we found the goal in the second half and had the resolve to keep a clean sheet as well.”

Two of UAlbany's three wins this season have been shutouts.  Next up for the Great Danes is the fifth and final consecutive road game on this long trip.  UAlbany will visit Boston College on Tuesday, September 20 at 3:30 p.m.
