BOX SCORE

ALBANY, N.Y. – University at Albany men's soccer (3-2-0) saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon, as the Great Danes fell 3-0 at the hands of Dartmouth (2-1-0). Trevor Gorman's squad continues its three-game homestand against Central Connecticut on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

“Unfortunately we gave up a goal early, and that changed the complexion of the match-up,” said Gorman. “We created a lot of good chances, and have to just keep plugging away. We have a full week of practice to get ready for Central Connecticut on Saturday night.”

The Big Green looked to open the game on a high note, as Matt Greer took the game's first corner kick just three minutes in. Greer found Ricardo Gomez for a header into the top right for an early 1-0 Dartmouth lead.

With the momentum in hand, the Big Green fired a few shots off-target in the ensuing minutes. UAlbany responded with the first shot on goal of the game, courtesy of Nico Solabarrieta. Leo Melgar and Pedro Espindola took a few Dartmouth defenders on, but the Brazilian duo couldn't find an answer with 28 minutes gone in the first half.

With a 1-0 lead secured, the Big Green made it 2-0 on a cross and three-on-two opportunity at the 18-yard box. As time ran down on the first stanza, the Great Danes had two corners but couldn't capitalize.

At the break, the Danes held a 4-2 advantage in corners, while the Big Green took a narrow 8-7 edge in shots.

Melgar had the first quality opportunity for UAlbany in the second half, but the junior had his shot saved. Dartmouth countered with its third goal in the 59th minute.

The game became increasingly physical as the Danes pushed forward into the offensive end. Six yellow cards were issued in the second half. Despite Leo Melgar's five shots, the Purple & Gold finished the second half without another shot on goal.

Gorman's squad matched a season high in corners with five.

UAlbany men's soccer will regroup for Central Connecticut (1-3-0) on Saturday, Sept 19 at 7:00 p.m., from Bob Ford Field.
