ALBANY, N.Y.- University at Albany in conjunction with the America East conference will show its support for the You Can Play Project with the first of three 2015-16 “You Can Play Nights” on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the 7:00pm men's soccer game against Hartford. This is the second year of You Can Play initiatives at America East conference games.

The You Can Play Project:

  • Works to insure the safety and inclusion of all in sports - including LGBT athletes, coaches and fans
  • Works to guarantee that athletes are given a fair opportunity to compete, judged by other athletes and fans alike, only by what they contribute to the sport or their team's success
  • Seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by focusing only on an athlete's skills, work ethic and competitive spirit.

This season, the America East provides materials to help promote and strengthen the You Can Play Project at its events. With the help of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), UAlbany spectators and fans can make a difference by signing the You Can Play pledge at the Wednesday night game against the Hawks.

The America East is the first Division I conference to partner with the You Can Play project, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity.
