WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Dunja Prgomet finished with 23 total kills over two matches, as UAlbany split with VCU and Sacred Heart on the first day of Army's West Point Challenge, held at Gillis Field House. UAlbany fell to VCU in the first match of the day, 3-0, with scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-18. The Great Danes defeated Sacred Heart later in the afternoon, 3-0, with set scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-22.
Sara Pope led the Great Danes with 13 kills against VCU (10-1). Traci Vandegrift added 12 kills, hitting .345 in the match, while also recording eight digs. Prgomet was the third UAlbany player in double-digit kills, finishing with 10, while also serving up one ace. Sofia Furlong and Lorena Marquez split setting duties, recording 18 and 11, respectively. Viktoriia Stroilo led UAlbany defensively with 17 digs.
Prgomet recorded a match-high 13 kills on .323 hitting, while Pope added 11 kills and three digs versus Sacred Heart (2-9). Vandegrift added six kills and posted 10 digs, to go along with seven total blocks. Marquez recorded 14 assists, while Furlong handed out 13 assists, along with four block assists. The Great Danes out-blocked the Pioneers, 12-3, and also served up three aces.
UAlbany (3-8) will complete tournament action on Saturday, facing off against the host Black Knights at 7:30 p.m.
