UAlbany Volleyball Drops Second Straight Match, Falling to UMBC, 3-1

Baltimore, Md. - Despite 13 kills from Samantha Brostrom,
UAlbany fell to UMBC, 3-1, in America East Conference volleyball action on
Friday evening. The Retrievers posted set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, and
25-21 to hand the Great Danes their second straight loss.
Brostrom finished with a double-double of 13 kills and 12
digs, while Traci Vandegrift added 12 kills and 15 digs along with a team-high
three blocks, while hitting .278 for the Great Danes. Sara Pope also added 12
kills, while Viktoriia Stroilo recorded a team-high 16 digs. Gabby Whitworth
was just short of a double-double with 42 assists and nine digs, to go along
with three kills and one service ace.
Hannah Schmidt led all players with 18 kills and finished
with a double-double, adding 10 digs and three service aces for UMBC (13-14, AE
6-4). Sherelle Walker was the second of four UMBC players with double-digit
kills, with 15, while Krystal Mlemchukwu and Ali Loynachan recorded 12 and 11
kills, respectively. Loynachan also had a double-double, totaling 11 digs.
UAlbany (10-14, AE 7-2) will return to action on Sunday,
visiting Binghamton for a 2 p.m. match.
