ALBANY, N.Y. -- Despite 12 kills apiece from Samantha Brostrom and Dunja Prgomet, UAlbany lost its first America East Conference match of the season, a 3-1 decision to Stony Brook, on Friday evening at University Gymnasium. The Great Danes won the first set, 25-15, but the Seawolves came back to post scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-23 to win the match.

UAlbany used four kills from Brostrom in the first set, as the sophomore hit .571 to lead the Great Danes. Sara Pope managed three kills, while Traci Vandegrift recorded two kills and two digs on .667 hitting to give UAlbany the win.

Stony Brook came back in set two, and held the Great Danes to .116 hitting, outblocking UAlbany, 4-1, in the set. Evann Slaughter, who had a match-high 16 kills overall, smacked five kills in the set to lead the Seawolves.

The Great Danes battled through set three, getting five kills apiece from Brostrom and Prgomet, but Stony Brook got 16 kills in the set as a team, to UAlbany's 10. Melissa Rigo and Shelby Tietjen led the Seawolves with four kills each.

In the fourth and final set, UAlbany got six kills from Prgomet, who, along with Vandegrift and Gabby Whitworth, was honored in a senior ceremony prior to the match. Along with four kills form Vandegrift, the Great Danes came from behind to pressure Stony Brook late, but five kills from Rigo, along with a big solo block from Stephanie McFadden, kept the Seawolves on top for the win.

Whitworth finished with 35 assists, seven digs and five kills for the Great Danes, while Prgomet recorded a double-double with her 12 kills and 13 digs. Stony Brook (8-12, AE 3-4) outblocked the Great Danes in the match, 8-7, led by Slaughter, who had five total blocks in the match.

UAlbany (10-13, AE 7-1) will have a week off before returning to action on the road at UMBC on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
