UAlbany Falls to a Hot-Shooting Stony Brook, 81-68; Great Danes Look Ahead to UNH

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Bryan Dougher and his 19 points lead the way for Stony Brook defeating UAlbany, 81-68, on Sunday, Jan. 8 at Pritchard Gym. The Great Danes have fallen to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Seawolves Improve to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in the conference. UAlbany continues its 2011-12 schedule against New Hampshire on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at SEFCU Arena at 7 pm.
     Gerardo Suero led all scorers with 28 points and grabbed four rebounds. Logan Aronhalt and Mike Black also figured in the scoring equation with double-digits of 18 and 14, respectively. Suero's streak of 20-plus point games is now up to nine.
     Dougher led the Seawolves in scoring with 19 points, 15 coming in the second half. Dallis Joyner recorded a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Jackson was the third Seawolf in double-digits with 11, going 3-of-3 from behind the arc.
     Stony Brook led UAlbany in shooting percentage, 56.4 to 39.7, and in rebounding, 38-28. The Seawolves shot an impressive 62.5 percent (10-16) from behind the arc.
     UAlbany and Stony Brook played well on defense in the first half, only allowing the opponent to score 12 points apiece, 12-12, with 12:00 remaining in the first half. Suero and Black both hit two three-pointers while the Seawolves' had six different scorers.
     Stony Brook then went on a 15-4 run to go ahead, 27-16, with 8:36 remaining in the half. Anthony Jackson went off hitting three consecutive three-pointers during the run. The Seawolves would finish out the half with an 11-point lead, 44-33.
     The Seawolves were shooting almost lights out in the first half leading the Great Danes in shooting percentage, 72.0 to 34.4 and had a slight lead in rebounds, 17-15. The Great Danes' Suero would lead all scorers at the half with 13 points.
     The second half was controlled by Stony Brook as it's defense was able to retain no less than a nine-point lead. Dougher would lead the way hitting all five of his three pointers in the second half. The Seawolves were very active on the offense boards grabbing 11 of its 12 total rebounds in the second half.
