UAlbany's Free-Throw Shooting Helps Defeat UMBC, 89-72; Three Great Danes With 22

Baltimore, Md. - The trio of Mike Black, Logan Aronhalt, and Gerardo Suero scored 22 apiece to lead the University at Albany (10-6, 2-0) over UMBC (2-12, 1-1), 89-72, on Thursday, Jan. 5. UAlbany broke its Division I single-game record of made free-throws with 30 (previously 29 vs.Wagner 12/30/10). The Great Danes had a season-high in total points with 89 having recently upped their season high against Hartford at 88.
     The Great Danes had four players in double-figures, three of which had 22 that included Aronhalt, Black, and Suero, Luke Devlin was the fourth with 10. As a team, UAlbany led UMBC in rebounds, 39-26, while UMBC led in shooting percentage from the floor, 51.9 to 48.1.
     The Retrievers leading scorer was Chase Plummer with 25 points and seven rebounds along with four assists. Jake Wasco and Adrian Satchell each were in double-digits with 12 and 10, respectfully.
     UMBC came right out of the gate going on a 10-0 run with 18:18 left in the first half. Chase Plummer and Brian Neller led the run with two quick three's. The Retrievers would then extend their lead further to 20-9 with Plummer leading the way down low with six of his 16 first half points.
     UAlbany erased the 11-point UMBC lead to cut it within two, 20-18, with 11:15 left to play in the half. Logan Aronhalt scored seven of his 18 first half points during the run.
     The Retrievers would start to catch fire from behind the arc hitting four consecutive three's to bring their lead up to 10, 33-23, with 8:41 left in the half. Plummer led with two of his three three-pointers during that span.
     The Great Danes would finish out the half on a 28-7 run and have an 11 point lead, 51-40. Aronhalt would lead all scorers at the half with 18 points.
In the second half, UAlbany would never look back as the lead for UAlbany would reach as high as 20 points.
     UAlbany will look to extend its winning streak to four on the road against Stony Brook on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 pm.
