Greene recorded a hat trick to lead Hofstra to a 5-0 win over UAlbany in
non-conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at the NYC Classic,
hosted by St. John's.
Brittany Butts put Hofstra on the board just 2:38 into
play, taking an assist from Tara Kerns. Courtney Breen doubled the Pride's
score nine minutes later, as Ruby Staplehurst took a free kick that was
redirected across the goal in front of UAlbany goalkeeper Dani Britt, who
misplayed the ball. Greene started her scoring barrage in the 15th minute, as
Amber Stobbs handed off a short through pass, which Greene dribbled into the
box and placed in the corner of the net. Greene added her second tally of the
day before halftime, hitting a left-footed shot into the top far corner from
25-yards out.
Hofstra would not settle in the second half, as Greene
wrapped up her day with a goal in the 58th minute. Erin Breen tipped the ball
to Greene, who beat Great Dane back-up goalkeeper Jacky Ubert with a quick shot
to the inside post.
Hofstra (2-1-0) outshot UAlbany, 25-14, including a 14-0
margin in the second half. The Pride also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Britt, the Great Danes' starter in the net, played 16:49 between the pipes,
while Ubert got the final 73:11 of action, making all nine of UAlbany's saves
in the game. Emily Morphitis earned the start for Hofstra, making one save in
the first half, while Kylie Shuster played the second half for the Pride.
UAlbany (1-2-0) will return to action on Wednesday, visiting
Iona at 4 p.m.
