Two Early Goals Lead to UAlbany's 3-1 Defeat; Great Danes Look Forward to New Hampshire

Burlington, Vt.- DJ Edler in the 58th minute scored the game-winning goal for Vermont to defeat UAlbany, 3-1, at Centennial Field. The Great Danes are in seventh with three points in the conference standings and two points behind current fifth seeded New Hampshire and sixth seeded Hartford. The Wildcats are slated to play the now second seeded Terriers of Boston U. and the Hawks face the last place Bearcats of Binghamton later this evening.
Vermont (8-6-1, AE 3-2-1) quickly got on the scoreboard with a goal in the 16th minute for the 1-0 lead. The Catamounts offensive attack was led by Juan Peralta making a perfect crossing pass inside the 10 yard box for Joe Losier to strike his 6th goal of the season. Vermont led in shots, 5-2, and were even in corner kicks, 2-2, at the half.
The Catamounts began the second half with the eventual game-winning goal by DJ Edler in the 58th minute.
Having not found the net since mid-september, UAlbany's (4-9-3, AE 0-3-3) Quintel Gates was able to cut the deficit, 2-1, in the 64th minute for his sixth goal of the season.
Then Vermont's Edler scored his second of the game in the 76th minute to give the Catamounts an insurance goal and a good chance for a first-round home game in the America East Conference Championship tournament.
UAlbany's Adrian Foncette recorded four saves on seven chances. Vermont's Ramada tallied two saves on three chances.
The Great Danes wrap-up its 2011 regular season with Senior Day at home against New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 pm at Varsity Field.
