Raheem Singleton's Two Free Throws With 3.6 Seconds Left Leads Maine Past UAlbany, 66-64

Albany, N.Y. - Raheem Singleton made two free throws with 3.6 seconds remaining to lead Maine to a 66-64 America East Conference victory over UAlbany on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at SEFCU Arena. The Black Bears have won seven of their last nine contests.
In a second half that featured 13 lead changes and two ties, Maine (9-7, AE 3-1) revered a 43-41 deficit with eight consecutive points. Gerald McLemore, who had 19 points, canned one of his five 3-point field goals to ignite that stretch. Troy Barnies, a 6-foot-7 senior who totaled 18 points and seven rebounds, added a one-hander in the lane and Murphy Burnatowski split a pair of free throws.
UAlbany (8-11, AE 1-3) regrouped with six straight points to draw even at 49 apiece. Mike Black, who netted 18 points, hit a 10-foot jumper in the lane to tie the contest midway through the half. The game went back and forth the rest of the way. Barnies drilled a three-pointer for a 62-61 advantage and UAlbany's Luke Devlin answered with a long-range shot from right of the key to put his team back on top.
McLemore made two free throws for a 64-all deadlock with 40.9 seconds remaining. After UAlbany's Tim Ambrose missed a 15-foot jumper, Singleton pushed the ball in transition and was fouled in the lane. The 66-percent free throw shooter made both ends of a one-and-one opportunity. Ambrose misfired on a 30-footer at the end.
"Our energy was good and we competed well," UAlbany coach Will Brown said. "We didn't do all the little things well enough to achieve the big thing. We lost some of their three-point shooters at times on defense. Troy Barnies is playing at a high level."
The Great Danes, who dropped their third straight, overcame an early 10-point deficit. Maine's Singleton, who had nine points and 10 assists, made a three-point play when he was fouled after stealing an inbounds pass for a 12-2 advantage. UAlbany rallied to go ahead 17-15 when Logan Aronhalt scored with an offensive rebound of a missed free throw.
UAlbany would later move out to a 27-22 lead when Black hit a jumper on the left baseline. The Black Bears closed within 32-30 by the halftime as McLemore sank a pair of three-point field goals from the left corner in the late stages of the period.
"We lost but we put ourselves in a situation to win the game," explained Black, who made 8-of-14 from the field. "We had lapses on defense where we didn't talk or communicate and that allowed their shooters to get open three's."
Ambrose finished with 12 points, five assists and five rebounds, while Devlin was the third Great Dane in double figures with 10.

Paw Prints:  The Great Danes have been involved in five games decided by two points or less this season ... Maine has won four of the last five meetings in this series ...
