Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Home Decision to Colgate; Adrian Foncette Makes Four Saves

Albany, N.Y. - Mike Reidy scored his first goal of the season late in the second half to lead Colgate to a 1-0 victory over UAlbany in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday, Sept. 12 at Varsity Field.
     After a tough first half in which neither team managed to take a shot on goal, Colgate came out of the break strong and applied early pressure in its offensive third to earn the match's first scoring opportunities. The Raiders rifled two shots at Adrian Foncette off of four corner kicks in the opening five minutes of the second stanza, but the Great Dane goalkeeper made two acrobatic stops to keep the match scoreless.
     Colgate (3-0-1) finally broke through with the only goal it needed In the 79th minute. Reidy, last season's Patriot League Rookie of the Year, dribbled around a Great Dane defender and beat Foncette with a laser to the near post from 15 yards out. The hosts almost tied the match in the waning seconds off a free kick taken from the middle of the field by David Burke. However, Milos Jankovic's attempt to head the ball over goalkeeper Chris Miller was saved at the last moment.
     Foncette made four saves on 12 chances for UAlbany in the losing effort. Colgate's Miller earned his first shutout and second straight victory by turning away four of the nine shots he faced.
     UAlbany (2-2) concludes its four-game homestand when it hosts crosstown-rival Siena on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.
