Richmond, Va. - Junior Jessica Ojukwu finished with a double-double of 13 kills and 18 digs to lead Virginia Commonwealth to a 3-1 win over UAlbany on Friday evening at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. The Rams recorded single game scores of 25-22, 15-25, 25-12 and 25-17 en route to the victory.
America East Conference Player of the Year Teresa Coppiellie led the Great Danes with a double-double of 14 kills and a team-high 23 digs. Junior Casey Wright recorded a match-best 15 kills on a .467 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks. Setter Abbey Wexel totaled 44 assists while Laurie Gonzalez, the America East Defensive Specialist of the Year totaled 22 digs for the Great Danes.
Kristin Boyd was the only other VCU player with double-digit kills, finishing with 10, while Marisa Low led all players with 29 digs. Ciara Brown and Mariel Fray recorded 11 digs apiece, while Brown completed a double-double with 25 assists.
UAlbany (22-8) will return to action next weekend at the NCAA Tournament. The Great Danes will find out their opponent on Sunday. The live selection show will be broadcast on ESPNews. UAlbany student-athletes, coaches and media members will watch the selection show in SEFCU Arena's Hall of Fame Room on Sunday afternoon.
