Albany, N.Y. - Setter Abbey Wexel finished with a double-double of 37 assists and 11 digs to lead UAlbany to a 3-1 win over UMBC in a battle for first place in the America East Conference volleyball standings on Sunday afternoon at University Gym. The Great Danes won the match with scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-14.

            Wexel added four kills, one block assist and one service ace in the match for the Great Danes. Teresa Coppiellie led the team offensively with 17 kills, while also completing a double-double with 14 digs to go along with four total blocks and two of the Great Danes' 11 service aces. Traci Vandegrift also finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 18 digs, along with four block assists. Libero Laurie Gonzalez recorded a match-high 23 digs, while both Gabby Whitworth and Lindsey McCloskey notched three service aces apiece.

            Sabrina Hoeks led UMBC (9-14, AE 5-3) with 14 kills, and finished with a double-double by tallying 14 digs. Setter Alexandria Spaay also recorded a double-double of the assist-dig variety, recording 28 and 18, respectively. Libero Ali Goc led the Retrievers with a team-high 21 digs, while Hallie Carter added 14 digs and two block assists. Iman Kennedy led the team at the net with five total blocks, and added eight kills. UAlbany held the Retrivers to a .043 hitting percentage, outblocking UMBC, 9-8.

            UAlbany (16-7, AE 6-2) took over sole possession of first place in the America East Conference with four matches to go in the regular season. The Great Danes will return to action on Friday, Nov. 5 at UMBC at 7 p.m.
