Albany, N.Y. - Anna Lejina and Michelle McDonough both recorded double-doubles highlighted by 16 kills apiece to lead Binghamton to a 3-0 sweep of UAlbany in America East Conference volleyball action on Friday, Oct. 22 at University Gym. The Bearcats defeated the Great Danes with scores of 25-21, 28-26 and 25-23.
Casey Wright led the Great Danes with 15 kills and three blocks on a match-high .433 hitting percentage. Senior Teresa Coppiellie finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 14 digs while setter Abbey Wexel totaled 40 assists and 10 digs for the Great Danes. Libero Laurie Gonzalez finished with 25 digs to lead the team defensively, while Lindsey McCloskey also added 16 digs for UAlbany.
Lejina completed her double-double for Binghamton with 20 digs while McDonough added 12 digs defensively. Setter Julie Chambers finished with 43 assists and 10 digs while libero Xiomara Ortiz totaled a match-high 27 digs. The Bearcats outblocked the Great Danes, 7-6, led by Alex Rowland, who recorded four block assists in the match to go along with seven kills. Sandra DeVito also finished with double-digit digs, finishing with 12 along with three block assists for Binghamton (10-11, AE 5-1).
UAlbany (13-7, AE 4-2) will return to action on Sunday, visiting Binghamton in conference action in Vestal at 5 p.m.
