Natalie Newell joined the UAlbany rowing program in the fall of 2025 as an assistant coach.
A native of Ontario, Canada, she began rowing in 2012 with the Brockville Rowing Club. In 2017, she captured a gold medal in the U19 Women’s Pair at the prestigious Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.
She continued her rowing career at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, competing from 2017 to 2022. During her time with the Lakers, Newell helped Mercyhurst to a runner-up finish at the 2021 NCAA Division II Rowing Championships and a first-place finish at the 2021 Head of the Charles Regatta in the Women’s Division II/III Varsity 8+, marking the program’s first-ever win at the event.
In her final season, Newell and the Lakers captured the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship as a team and in the Women’s Varsity 8+, securing the third overall team title in program history.
Newell graduated from Mercyhurst University in 2022, with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Public Health
