Craig Turnbull joined the UAlbany staff as Associate Athletic Director for Development in January 2020. His primary responsibility is to strengthen philanthropic support for Great Dane athletics, with special emphasis on securing major gifts and overseeing the Great Danes Athletic Club. In addition, Turnbull has sport supervisory responsibilities for baseball and softball.
For more than 30 years, Turnbull has worked in collegiate and professional sports in the areas of development, brand marketing, communications and sales. Most recently, Turnbull served as VP Brand Management for the Detroit Pistons and was Sr. VP Marketing Communications & Sponsorship Sales for the Red Wings, where he was a member of the executive team that helped design and sell sponsorship for the award-winning Little Caesars Arena.
Prior to his stay in Detroit, Turnbull worked in development and alumni relations at the University of Connecticut, Siena College and the University of Maine. Turnbull was a baseball student-athlete at Siena College (’87) and was inducted into the Siena Sports Hall of Fame in 1999. He received his Masters in Sports Marketing from the University of Connecticut in 1991. Craig and his wife Carol have three grown children – Sara, Laura and Joe.
