Wayne Jones joined the UAlbany baseball staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2024.
Jones came to UAlbany following a six-year stint at the helm of Saint Rose’s baseball program and eight-year overall tenure with the Golden Knights, having spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons as an assistant where his primary responsibilities were focused on working with the pitching staff.
Jones brings a wealth of experience to the Great Danes program. He previously served as the pitching coach at nearby Shenendehowa and Shaker High Schools from 2000-14. He also worked in the same capacity for the South Troy Dodgers Elite Team throughout a 12-year span and was the head coach of the Clifton Park Reds of the Mountain Collegiate League from 1998-04.
At Shaker, he helped guide the Bison to the 2011 New York State Championship Tournament Finals and had a hand in developing two major league pitchers, Jeff Hoffman, MLB all-star in 2024 with the Philadelphia Phillies (selected ninth overall by Toronto in 2016) and Tommy Kahnle, who has spent several years in the major leagues with the New York Yankees and other teams.
In addition, Jones has coached 10 players who have gone on to play major league baseball and countless others who have played professionally. He helped lead South Troy to six Connie Mack World Series appearances and directed Clifton Park to the 1999 Continental Amateur Baseball Association Collegiate Division National Championship.
He currently resides in Ballston Lake, N.Y.
