Blanda was a four-year letter-winner at St. Joseph by the Sea, where he served as team captain and was named team MVP during his senior year. He was named to the Staten Island Advance All-Star team, won the
CHSAA city championship in the outdoor long jump, and the
NYCHSAA championship in the indoor and outdoor long jump. He finished 12th overall in the long jump at New York State Championships as a senior. In 2010, his team won the Staten Island championship, and in 2011 his team won the
NYCHSAA championship.
