Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team dropped the opening game of its weekend series against Binghamton on Friday afternoon.

How it Happened:

• Binghamton struck first in the opening inning on an RBI double down the left field line before adding another run on a balk to take a 2-0 lead.
• The Bearcats added to the lead in the second when Zach Anderson connected on a solo home run to left-center, making it 3-0 early.
• UAlbany threatened in the second after John Vitucci doubled to center field, but Binghamton starter Conner Griffin worked out of trouble and held the Great Danes scoreless through five innings.
• After several scoreless innings from both sides, Binghamton broke the game open in the seventh. A sacrifice fly pushed across one run before Tommy Popoff launched a three-run homer to extend the Bearcats' lead to 7-0.
• The Bearcats added five more runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by RBI singles from Sean Sweeney and Matt Bolton.
• UAlbany got on the board in the bottom half of the eighth. Patrick DeSarno scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Tre Mariano before Brian Guerrero was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home Jaxon Mueller and make it 12-2 which concluded the game.

Next: The Great Danes face Binghamton twice more this weekend, with Senior Day being held tomorrow, May 9 at 4:00 PM. The senior ceremony will begin at 3:30 PM.
