Parisi Breaks Single-Season Doubles Record at Maine

RECORDS: UAlbany 23-18, 12-7 America East | Maine 12-33, 6-13 America East

LOCATION: Pierre & Catherine Labat Softball Complex - Orono, Maine

SHORT STORY: Freshman Katie Parisi led the Great Danes with two big milestones during the doubleheader sweep at Maine, Friday evening.

GAME ONE

SCORE:
UAlbany 8, Maine 5

KEY STATS
  • Katie Parisi led the team with four RBI off three hits. Parisi's one double, her 22nd of the season, broke the UAlbany record for single-season doubles. Elizabeth Snow previously held the record with 21 doubles in 2017.
  • Junior Mary Kate Murray added two RBI and two hits.
  • Batters one and two in the lineup, junior Taylor Quinn and senior Sara Anderson made it on base with all four plate appearances. Quinn tallied two hits and two walks while Anderson hit once and drew three walks.
  • Sophomore pitchers Hayley Wieczerzak and Hailey Errichiello shared time in the circle. Wieczerzak earned the start and pitched six strikeouts in five innings. Errichiello closed the game with two strikeouts in two innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Taylor Quinn began the game with a single before making her way around the bases and scoring the first run. Sara Anderson made it two Great Dane runs giving freshman Julia Pike an RBI.
  • After loading the bases, Maine tied the score with a two-RBI single before the end of the first.
  • UAlbany answered with a two-out rally and scored four runs.
  • With Quinn and Anderson on base, Katie Parisi hit a double to bring in both of them.
  • Mary Kate Murray immediately followed with a single to bring in Parisi from second before advancing two bases off a wild pitch and an error and scoring a run.
  • After a scoreless third, Parisi added two more RBI once again bringing in Quinn and Anderson, this time with a single through the right side.
  • The Black Bears scored a single run when Kaelyn Larkin hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Despite loading the bases, Maine was held to zero runs by the Great Dane defense in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Black Bears added two runs but it was not enough as UAlbany took the game one win, 8-5.

GAME TWO

SCORE:
UAlbany 1, Maine 0

KEY STATS
  • Katie Parisi led the team with two hits, including one double to tie the America East Conference record for doubles in a single season.
  • Senior Deanna Grahek scored the only run of the game. Sophomore Ava Beal drove her in for the lone RBI.
  • Julia Pike and Hailey Errichiello shared time in the circle. Pike pitched six complete innings and allowed just three hits and no runs for the win. Errichiello earned a save by pitching the final inning with no hits or runs allowed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Much different from the first game, the second game of the doubleheader remained scoreless through three innings.
  • Katie Parisi tabbed the only Great Dane hits (two) through the first 3.1 innings. She singled to right field in the first before tying the America East conference's single-record with her 23rd double of the season in the third inning.
  • Senior Deanna Grahek opened the fourth by drawing a walk. Ava Beal followed with an infield single and an RBI as Grahek scored from second base.
  • The score remained 1-0 through the rest of the game.
  • The UAlbany defense allowed no more than two Black Bears on base at one time throughout the entire contest. In four innings, they left just one runner on base.
  • Maine made a two-out rally putting two on base with their cleanup batter at the plate. On the first pitch, Keira Inman hit a ball beyond the fence but it went just left of the left-field pole and fell foul. Earning the save from the circle, Hailey Errichiello pitched two more strikes for the final strikeout and the game.

NEXT: The Great Danes will look to sweep the series with the final game tomorrow (May 2). First pitch is set for 12 pm (noon).
