Men’s Lacrosse Downs NJIT, Finishes Undefeated in Conference Play

Short Story:
 The University at Albany men's lacrosse team completed the regular season with a 9-8 win over NJIT on Saturday night. The win moved the Great Danes to a perfect 6-0 in America East play with the 2026 tournament on the horizon next week.

How it Happened:  
  • The Great Danes got on the board first with back-to-back goals midway through the first. Brendon Barnard scored the first, Ryan Doherty scored the second.
  • NJIT responded with two of their own off the sticks of Blake Piscitiello and Will Corry to tie it up.
  • The Highlanders took the lead with their third-straight goal with 2:01 remaining in the first, courtesy of Wyatt Viste.
  • Jackson Palumb tied it up for the Great Danes early in the second, but another two goals from the Highlanders minutes later shot them into a two-goal lead at 5-3.
  • Doherty scored his second of the night at the 8:37 mark.
  • NJIT answered with another goal from Piscitiello to push the lead back to two.
  • Doherty completed his first half hat trick with 3:21 remaining in the first half, cutting the deficit to one goal at 6-5.
  • Ben Wimmer tied the game at 6-6 three minutes into the third quarter.
  • NJIT's Dylan Sebastian put the Highlanders back into the lead five minutes later.
  • Koleton Marquis tied the game at 7-7 with 6 minutes remaining in the third.
  • Carson Bowley put NJIT back in front with the first goal of the fourth quarter.
  • Back-to-back goals from the Great Danes late in the fourth propelled them to a 9-8 advantage. Dillon Mehta scored with the long pole with 5:57 on the clock, the first of his career. Doherty followed two minutes later on a feed from Daniel Kesselring to put UAlbany ahead. The goal would be the final of the game to give UAlbany the win.
 
Next: The Great Danes now look ahead to the 2026 America East Men's Lacrosse Championship. UAlbany is set to host the tournament as the league's No. 1 overall seed. Semifinal action from Casey Stadium is set for 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, with the Great Danes playing at 7:00 against No. 4 UMBC.
