SHORT STORY: The Great Danes split the doubleheader against Syracuse after a game one exra-inning victory, Sunday.
GAME ONE
SCORE: UAlbany 2, Syracuse 1 (9 innings)
KEY STATS
- Freshman Katie Parisi led the team with one RBI off one hit, a double.
- Two additional Great Danes tallied a hit - freshman Julia Pike and sophomore Taylor Quinn.
- Sophomore Hayley Wieczerzak earned the complete-game win, striking out over a third of the batters she faced (12 total).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Syracuse started hitting early when their leadoff batter hit a triple to right field.
- An inning later, the Orange scored their only run of the game after a second triple.
- The Great Danes got on base for the first time in the fourth inning with a Julia Pike single.
- Taylor Quinn went on to make her way around the bases and tie the score at one.
- During the fifth and sixth innings, Syracuse put a runner in scoring position but a strikeout from Hayley Wieczerzak left them stranded both times.
- The game headed into extra innings after Wieczerzak retired two batters and senior Deanna Grahek caught a pop fly in the seventh.
- After a scoreless eighth inning, a runner was placed on second to help break the tie in the ninth.
- With two outs on the scoreboard, Katie Parisi hit an RBI double to bring senior Kasey Conn home for the go-ahead run.
- A sacrifice bunt put the Orange's runner on third, but two pop flies quickly ended the inning, and the game, for the UAlbany victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Great Danes earned an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first.
- Leading off the game with a double, Julia Pike scored with a second double from Sara Anderson.
- With a third hit, Katie Parisi brought Anderson home with a single through the left side.
- After a scoreless second inning, Syracuse put two on base before a home run made it a 3-2 game.
- Hailey Errichiello struck out two batters in the top of the fourth.
- The Orange extended their lead with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
- Neither team was able to get on base throughout the remainder of the contest and SU went home with the game-two win.
NEXT: The Great Danes are scheduled to host Siena for a doubleheader on Wednesday (Mar. 11) in their first home game(s) of the season.
