Baseball Drops Day Two at St. John’s

Score: St. John's 5, UAlbany 4

Location: Jeff Kaiser Stadium – Queens, N.Y.

Records: UAlbany (0-9, 0-0 America East) | St. Johns (3-9, 0-0 Big East)

Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team erased an early deficit with a three-run fourth inning, but St. John's held on for a 5-4 victory Saturday afternoon.

Coach Jon Mueller: "Another battle throughout the game. Christian Mello and Ethan Nardacci threw well, and Logan Morris had a good day at the plate. St John's took advantage of the free things we gave them and that was the difference."

Key Stats: How it Happened:
  • The Great Danes struck first in the second inning. Luke Filippi doubled and moved to third before scoring on a wild pitch to give UAlbany a 1-0 lead.
  • St. John's responded with a three-run bottom of the second, using two RBI groundouts and a passed ball to take a 3-1 advantage.
  • The Red Storm extended their lead in the third with a solo home run from Will Cowan to make it 4-1.
  • UAlbany answered in the fourth. Levi McAllister singled and Luke Filippi reached before Logan Morris launched a three-run home run to tie the game at 4-4.
  • The Johnnies regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI single from Rob Mansour to push the score to 5-4.
  • The Great Danes put runners on late, including a Patrick DeSarno single in the eighth, but St. John's held on to secure the one-run win.

Next: The Great Danes complete the three-game series against St. John's tomorrow, March 8 at 1:00 PM.
