Pike Totals Three Hits Against Siena

SHORT STORY: Freshman Julia Pike led the team with three hits in a loss against Siena, Wednesday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE

KEY STATS
  • Julia Pike led the team with three hits, including one double, and one run. 
  • Senior Deanna Grahek followed with two hits, both doubles, one RBI, and one run scored. 
  • Junior Mary Kate Murray drove in a team-high two RBI.
  • Sophomore pitcher Hayley Wieczerzak held the Saints to two runs in five innings. Sophomore Hailey Errichiello relieved Wieczerzak for two innings to close out the game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saints had back-to-back home runs to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. 
  • Freshman Julia Pike doubled in the Great Danes' first plate appearance of the game, before advancing to third on a hit by fellow freshman, Katie Parisi
  • Parisi and Pike scored off a single to left field by junior Mary Kate Murray to tie the game at two after the first inning. 
  • Both teams went three up, three down in the second inning to keep the score tied at two. 
  • Each team put runners on base in the third, but none of them made it home. 
  • Sophomore Hayley Wieczerzak caught one of Siena's batters looking to end the top of the fourth. 
  • In the bottom of the fourth, junior Taylor Quinn tripled to right center, before scoring on the next play when senior Deanna Grahek doubled to left center. 
  • Sophomore Vanessa Meyers made it three consecutive UAlbany hits and brought Grahek home for a 4-2 lead after four.
  • Following a scoreless fifth inning, the Saints scored three runs in the top of the sixth before holding off UAlbany through the end of the game to take the win. 
 
GAME TWO
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Julia Pike once again started the game for the Great Danes with a double as the leadoff batter. Unable to get anywhere, the game remained tied at zero after one.
  • Katie Parisi and Kasey Conn combined for a double play with two on base to hold the Saints in the top of the second.
  • Siena scored off of a double in the top of the third to take the lead. 
  • The Saints scored four more runs in the top of the fourth despite back-to-back strikeouts courtesy of pitcher Julia Pike
  • In the bottom of the fourth, junior Taylor Quinn singled to the left side before advancing to second on an error. She proceeded to score after stealing third and advancing home on an error on the third baseman. 
  • After one batter walked in the top of the fifth, the game was called due to rain; therefore, the game was incomplete and stats do not count. 
 
NEXT: The Great Danes are scheduled to travel to Emmitsburg, Maryland to take on Mount St. Mary's on Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 14-15).
