SHORT STORY: The Great Dane pitchers combined to shut out the Blue Devils in both doubleheader contests, Tuesday afternoon.
GAME ONE
SCORE: UAlbany 9, CCSU 0 (5 inn.)
KEY STATS
- Redshirt-senior Victoria Vilarchao led the Great Danes with four RBI from two hits, including one home run.
- Freshman Vanessa Meyers went 2-2 with two runs scored.
- Sophomore Taylor Quinn added two RBI while senior Christie Collins and freshman Ava Beal each drove in one run.
- Redshirt-senior Kate Powers pitched all five innings, with seven strikeouts, for the shutout victory. She allowed just two hits and walked two batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Caitlyn Frederick tallied the first hit for the Great Danes with a bunt.
- After a single from Vanessa Meyers, UAlbany had runners on first and third but both were left on base in the top of the first.
- Kate Powers tabbed all three outs to close the first with three strikeouts.
- The Blue Devils walked two before senior Christie Collins drove in a run with a single to left field.
- Taylor Quinn added a single for two RBI and the Great Danes held a 3-0 lead after the second inning.
- Once again, CCSU walked two Great Danes, one of which - Meyers - scored on a dropped fly ball.
- Victoria Vilarchao followed with a home run to clear the bases and make it a 7-0 game before the end of the third inning.
- UAlbany sealed the five-inning win with two additional runs in the top of the fifth.
- Meyers and redshirt-sophomore Natasha Mendez hit back-to-back singles to get on base.
- Vilarchao added her fourth RBI, and the Great Danes' eighth run, with a single to left field.
- Junior Sara Anderson loaded the bases with the inning's fourth single in five batters.
- With two outs on the board, freshman Ava Beal pinch-hit an infield single and drove in a run.
- The Blue Devils hit a double in the bottom of the fifth but with a final groundout to the pitcher, Powers had secured her two-hit shutout victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vanessa Meyers tallied the first single of the game in the top of the first.
- The Blue Devils' leadoff batter answered with a double to right field.
- Three Great Dane batters reached first in the top of the second but no hits were recorded and no runs were scored.
- By the end of the second inning, Hailey Errichiello had struck out four batters, three of which she caught looking.
- Christie Collins scored the first run in the top of the third.
- After walking to get on base, she stole both second and third to quickly put herself in a good position to score.
- Caitlyn Frederick hit a single to shallow left field to drive in Collins for the first run of the game.
- CCSU hit two singles in the bottom of the third but both runners were left on base by the Great Dane defense.
- After a scoreless fourth inning, UAlbany added a second run in the fifth.
- Reaching on a fielder's choice and stealing third, Taylor Quinn was primed to score when Frederick tallied her second hit of the game, an infield single.
- Hayley Wieczerzak took over in the circle in the bottom of the fifth and quickly struck out two batters in eight pitches.
- Mary Kate Murray and Victoria Vilarchao added singles in the sixth but their pinch-runners, Ava Beal and freshman Jenny Nardelli, respectively, were left on the bases.
- Wieczerzak brought her strikeout total to five with all three batters in the bottom of the sixth.
- UAlbany went down in order in the final inning but the result was finalized when Wieczerzak caught the final Blue Devil looking for a third-out strikeout.
NEXT: The Great Danes will return home to host UMass Lowell for their third weekend of conference action.
