Men’s Lacrosse Hosts UMass Lowell

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men's lacrosse team is set to host its second consecutive home game this Saturday afternoon as the Great Danes host the UMass Lowell River Hawks at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. with coverage on ESPN+.

Leading the Pack
  • Ryan Doherty continues to lead the America East with 24 goals over nine games played. His 2.67 goals per game falls just ahead of Bryant's Rielly Dawson, who is averaging 2.63 per game. Coupled with seven assists, Doherty's 3.44 points per game ranks third in the conference.
  • Topping the America East in both assists and points is Silas Richmond. The attack man has collected 19 assists and 17 goals for a total of 36 points, averaging 4.0 per contest. Richmond recorded a team-high six points last week, scoring three goals and dishing out three assists against UMBC.
  • Koleton Marquis sits third on the team with 10 goals scored. He is followed by Daniel Kesselring (9), Jackson Palumb (8) and Amos Whitcomb (8).
  • Max Neeson has been an anchor on defense for the Great Danes, leading the team with 14 caused turnovers. The junior has found the back of the net twice this year with the long pole, including a score last time out against UMBC. He sits second on the team with 27 ground balls.
  • Cade Galko leads the team with 28 ground balls. Galko also found the back of the net two games ago with the pole, scoring on powerhouse Virginia.
  • Jacob Smith is also having a strong year on defense in his sophomore campaign. Smith has scored three pole goals and has totaled 20 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
  • Brady Smith has been UAlbany's go-to goalkeeper, recording 70 saves to go with an 11.64 GAA and a .496 save percentage.
  • Five different Great Danes have taken faceoffs so far this year.
 
Last Time Out
The Great Danes were unable to hold on last weekend at home against UMBC, falling to the Retrievers on overtime to drop to 0-2 in America East play.

Conference play resumes this weekend with six teams set for America East action. Binghamton will be the lone team facing a non-conference opponent.

History with UMass Lowell
UAlbany has faced off against UMass Lowell on 10 occasions, collecting a win every single time for a perfect 10-0 record. The closest meeting came back in 2022, when UAlbany escaped a road contest with a 13-12 victory. Last season, UAlbany defeated the River Hawks, in Lowell, by a score of 19-8. It was the highest scoring contest of the entire year for the Great Danes.

The River Hawks come into Saturday's matchup with an overall record of 3-5, sporting an 0-1 conference record. The squad has picked up wins against Merrimack, Mercyhurst, and Wagner. Losses have come at the expense of Holy Cross, Queens Charlotte, #17 Fairfield, Binghamton, and #17 UMass. The River Hawks are currently on a four-game losing streak.
  • Head Coach Drew Keleher is in his third season at UMass Lowell.
  • The team is averaging 11.0 goals per game with opponents averaging 12.1. The team has a .311 shot percentage, .849 clear percentage, and a .559 faceoff percentage.
  • Five different River Hawks have reached double-digit scoring numbers: Riley Lawhorn (15), Johnny Soi (14), Danny Burke (12), Garrett Murphy (12), and Alex Lafreniere (10).
  • Burke leads the team with 21 points, adding a team-high nine assists to his goal total.
  • Justin Alexander has taken the majority of faceoffs, going 100-164 at the X for a .610 win percentage. He is followed by Owen McIntee, who has gone 18-45 (.400).
