The Great Danes (3-5-3, 1-1-1 America East) return to Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Friday, October 17, to host the UMBC Retrievers at 6:30 p.m.

Ivar Gissurarson leads UAlbany with nine points — the fifth most in the America East — coming from four goals, tied for fourth in the conference, and one assist. Both Rodrigo Hermelo and Andre Navas are tied for the team lead and rank fourth in the conference with three assists each. Ethan Cook has logged the most minutes among all Great Dane field players this season, totaling 915.

UMBC (4-5-2, 0-2-1 America East) is coming off a 1-1 draw against New Hampshire, whom UAlbany defeated 3-1 on October 4. The Retrievers are currently in the midst of a seven-match winless streak (0-5-2). Brady Geho leads the team with eight points from three goals and two assists, while Matteo Samori has also recorded two assists to share the team lead. Goalkeeper Emigdio Tormo Lopez has started all 11 matches for UMBC, allowing 11 goals for a 1.00 goals-against average, with 36 saves and a .766 save percentage.

HOMECOMING

The UAlbany football team is set to play its fourth home game of the 2025 season at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium this Saturday when the team hosts URI for Homecoming. In the beloved college tradition, the Great Danes will welcome back alumni in a game centered around school spirit. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. with coverage on FloFootball. 

The Great Danes are looking to get back on track after a few tough games to start CAA play. Jojo Uga paces the offense in rushing yards with 213. Caden Burti leads all receivers with 20 catches for 308 yards. As a team, the Great Danes are averaging 14.5 points, 80.2 rushing yards, and 217.33 passing yards.

Defensively, Cam Stodghill now leads the team with 49 total tackles, including 2.0 tackles for loss. Erv Wiggins Jr. leads the secondary with four PBUs. As a unit, the UAlbany defense is allowing an average of 29.33 points, 207.0 rushing yards, and 166.33 passing yards. 

Rhode Island enters the game with a strong 5-2 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play. The team is averaging 24.57 points per game with opponents averaging 21.86 points per game. The offense runs for an average of 121.9 yards and passes for an average of 261.14 yards per game. The defense is holding teams to 163.4 yards per game and just 156.14 passing yards per game.

The 9-3 UAlbany field hockey team is set to host #16 Yale for one of their final regular-season games of the 2025 season. Pilar Lorenzini holds the team-high with 10 goals while four different student-athletes follow with four goals each (Indy van Ek, Tessa Overgoor, Emma Staron, and Jette Kurz). On the assist, Olivia Bell (9) and Mara Küskes (6) lead.

Yale holds a 9-2 record through 11 games. The Bulldogs will visit the Capital Region after hosting Dartmouth for a conference matchup. Poppy Beales leads the team with eight goals but Victoria Collee is not far behind with seven. Hettie Whittington (6) and Ymre Massée (4) lead on the assist with their respective numbers as well as five goals scored each. Amelie Schwarzkopf is solid in goal having started 10 games with a 1.17 GAA and .761 save percentage.

UAlbany holds a 7-0 lead in the all-time series. The Bulldogs and the Great Danes last faced each other at Alumni Turf in September 2022. It resulted in UAlbany's seventh consecutive win over Yale, a 3-0 shutout.
