Baseball Wins Fourth Straight

Short Story: The bats stayed hot as the Great Danes extended their winning streak to four by defeating Marist, 16-5, Tuesday afternoon.

Head Coach Jon Mueller: "We were sloppy defensively, but I thought we pitched it well enough and the offense came to life. We got some free stuff, and we cashed in with that free stuff. Looking forward to a big weekend."
 
 How it Happened:
  • The Great Danes gave Ryan Pittz the start as they looked to complete the sweep. Chris Ubner started on the bump for the Red Foxes.
  • Marist started the game with back-to-back singles, with Ethan Conrad scoring the first run of the contest on a sac fly to center, giving the Red Foxes an early 1-0 advantage. 
  • The Great Danes loaded the bases during the bottom of the first with Luke Myers running home after Jared Toby hit a sac fly to right field, tying the contest at 1-1. 
  • John Vitucci scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second, pushing UAlbany in front, 2-1. 
  • Conrad slugged a double down the left field line to score Brady Steinert for the Red Foxes. Conrad scored on a ground ball to short. Johnny Decker hit an RBI single up the middle as Rodriguez came in to score, as the Red Foxes pushed ahead, 4-2. 
  • Marist called Colin Carver to the mound in the bottom of the third. 
  • With runners on first and second the Red Foxes brought in Ty Morris in the third. 
  • After the second pitcher change, Cooper Loyal hit an RBI double down the left field sending Binder home. Toby scored on a sac fly to left field to tie the contest, 4-4.
  • The Great Danes called on Cam Fuer to pitch in the top of the fourth. 
  • Rodriguez ripped an RBI double to left field sending Conrad home, Red Foxes took the lead 5-4.
  • At the bottom of the fourth, Ryan Ferremi singled up the middle to drive in Vittuci, tying the contest. Fililippi singled through the left side, scoring Ferremi to make it 6-5. 
  • Marist brought in Lance Koenig with bases loaded and one out. 
  • Binder scored on a ground ball to third, advancing the Great Danes lead. Anthony Scarabino was hit-by-pitch which brought Filippi in, pushing the Great Danes' advantage to 8-5. 
  • Loading the bases to start the bottom of the fifth, an RBI single by Binder made it 9-5. 
  • The Red Foxes brought Nick Buchman in to pitch with bases loaded.
  • Toby was hit-by-pitch to score Myers, followed by Ferremi scoring on a wild pitch. Scarabino drove in two more insurance runs with a single up the middle, extending UAlbany's lead to 13-5. 
  • Kai Cottle came in to pitch for Marist with bases loaded in the sixth. 
  • Pinch hitting for Binder, Justin Hurd singled through the right side to score Vittuci.  Filippi slugged a sac fly out to center field, sending Myers home. Ferremi scored on a wild pitch to make it 16-5.
  • UAlbany switched Kyle McCaffrey to pitch for Fuer at the top of the seventh. 
  • The Great Danes extended their winning streak to four as they defeated Marist, 16-5.
