How it Happened
- The University at Albany women's lacrosse team returned to John Fallon Field on Saturday to kick off a three-game home stand and close out their 2024 regular-season home schedule. The Great Danes' opponent was regional rival UConn, against which UAlbany held an 0-6 record since 2000, with five games in the series being played since the 2019 season.
- UAlbany's last game saw the Great Danes' streak of regular-season victories against active America East opponents end after 4,397 days with a one-goal, 12-11 defeat on the road at the hands of UMBC. Since their previous defeat, on March 24, 2012, also to UMBC, the Great Danes went 72-20 against all America East opponents in the regular season and postseason, with 18 losses coming against Stony Brook after the Seawolves' rise to regular top-10 rankings.
- UConn's Rayea Davis kicked off scoring on Saturday with her first goal of the game with 12:32 remaining in the first quarter. UAlbany responded by scoring each of the next three, from three different scorers, Allie Maloney, Katie Pascale, and Mikaela Mooney, to take a 3-1 lead with 2:17 on the clock.
- The Huskies scored to close the first quarter and bring their deficit to one. Pascale scored her second goal just 52 seconds into the second quarter, but the Great Danes would be shut out for the remainder of the half.
- UConn used UAlbany's scoring drought to go on a 4-0 run to take a 6-4 lead at the break. Over the first 30 minutes, UConn had outshot UAlbany 15-7, and had forced seven of UAlbany's 14 turnovers.
- Three minutes into the third quarter, Allie Maloney scored to bring UAlbany back within one. An unassisted goal from Davis put the Huskies back up two, but Kloey Roos and Bryar Hogg scored back-to-back free position goals to tie the game at seven with 3:25 left in the third.
- UConn scored twice in the final 2:55 of the third quarter to retake a two-goal lead, and continued their latest run by scoring the first three goals of the third quarter. Mooney interrupted the Huskies run with her second goal of the game, but UConn regrouped to score each of the next two over the ensuing 30 seconds, and just 17 seconds apart.
- Roos and Hogg scored back-to-back again to bring UAlbany within four, 14-10, with 3:09 remaining. The pair scored their goals just 20 seconds apart. UConn scored one final goal with just under two minutes left to bring the final score to 15-10.
- UAlbany's offense generated more opportunities in the second half, creating 18 shots after just seven in the first half. Five Great Danes each scored two goals. In net, Grace Cincebox recorded 13 saves.Â
