SHORT STORY: Falling in a close game to start the doubleheader, the Great Danes came back with a fire to win game two in six innings, Friday.
 
GAME ONE
 
SCORE: FDU 3, UAlbany 2
 
KEY STATS

• Graduate student Morgan Petty hit a home run for two RBI.
• Senior Jordan Nastos led with two hits in four at bats.
• Graduate students Caitlyn Mitros and Maddi Petrella each added a double.
• For both teams, the only runs scored came from home runs.
• Pitchers Wendi Hammond, Dominique Prevette, and Kate Powers all shared time in the circle.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Caitlyn Mitros opened the game with a double to center field.
• The Knights took the lead with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second.
• UAlbany put two runners on base in the top of the third but the team was unable to take advantage.
• The Great Danes loaded the bases in the top of the fourth but an out at home and a strikeout left three UAlbany baserunners on at the end of the inning.
• Morgan Petty closed the scoring gap with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning.
• Both teams left three runners on base in the fifth inning.
• Maddi Petrella opened the seventh inning with a double but it was not enough to take the lead and the Knights notched the win, 3-2.

 
GAME TWO
 
SCORE: UAlbany 9, FDU 1 (6 inn.)
 
KEY STATS

• Caitlyn Mitros and Jordan Nastos led with two hits each while Mitros averaged a team-high 2-3 from the plate.
• Maddi Petrella and freshman Mary Kate Murray totaled two RBI each.
• Three Great Danes notched two runs each - Petrella, Nastos, and sophomore Kasey Conn.
• Petrella, Murray, and Nastos each hit a home run.
• Wendi Hammond and Kate Powers shared time in the circle equally. Powers started in the circle with Hammond earning the win.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Jordan Nastos earned the first hit of the game in the top of the second inning.
• After a single from redshirt-junior Victoria Vilarchao, sophomore Sara Anderson drove in the first run of the game.
• Caitlyn Mitros followed with an RBI single before Morgan Petty made it a 3-0 game with a third RBI.
• Jordan Nastos tallied the first home run of the game in the top of the third.
• The Great Dane defense notched three outs in three batters to end the third inning.
• Adding the fifth run during an at bat, Maddi Petrella hit a two-run homer to make it 7-0 in the top of the fourth.
• The Knights put a run on the board before the end of the inning.
• After a scoreless fifth, UAlbany added two runs with a home run from Mary Kate Murray in the top of the sixth.
• Closing out the game with three consecutive outs, the Great Danes secured a 9-1 victory.

 
NEXT: The Great Danes will compete in their final regular-season tournament at UMBC (Mar. 15-16).
