Short Story: After falling in game one, the University at Albany baseball team bounced back to earn their first win of the 2024 campaign. A standout performance by
Matthew Mariano on the bump and a great team performance at the plate fueled the game two victory.

- Luke Myers had a strong performance at the plate with three hits, including a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
- Luke Filippi owned a team-best two RBIs.
- Jared Toby and Will Binder both scored twice in the winning effort.
- As a team, eight players tallied a hit and seven recorded an RBI.
Head Coach Jon Mueller: "We talked before the game about looking through the windshield not in the rear view mirror. The schedule has been daunting and winning is difficult enough. Mariano was dominating and the offense came to life. Having an opportunity to win a road series is rare. Sunday will present that opportunity."
How it Happened Game 1:
- Owen Birkman started on the bump for the Great Danes. The River Hawks gave Brendan Williams the start.
- John Vitucci led off the contest with a walk and advanced to third on a Binder single. Toby drove in Vitucci with a sac fly to right field. Filippi reached on a throwing error that saw Binder come around to score, giving UAlbany an early 2-0 advantage.
- UMass Lowell struck back in the fourth inning. Loading the bases with a hit-by-pitch, Trey Brown scored on a passed ball. Connor Kelly sac fly to right field to tie the game, 3-3.
- Connor Eisenmann came in to pitch for the Great Danes with two outs and a runner on third.
- The River Hawks took the lead with a fielder's choice to second base that scored Ryan Proto. A throwing error by the Great Danes saw the difference extend to 4-2.
- In the fifth inning, Alex Luccini slugged a double down the right field line that scored two runs. Luccini crossed the plate on a sac fly, giving the River Hawks a 7-2 lead.
- Michael DiMartino was brought in from the pen UAlbany with one out.
- Brandon Fish tripled to left field, driving in two more insurance runs as UMass Lowell owned a 9-2 advantage.
- Luccini hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to push the score to 10-2.
- The River Hawks claimed game one of the doubleheader, 10-2.
How it Happened Game 2:
- The Great Danes gave Matthew Mariano the start in game two. Michael Simes started on the bump for UMass Lowell.
- Building pressure early, UAlbany loaded the bases with no outs. Toby was hit-by-pitch to bring in a run. Filippi drove in two with a single off the left field wall. After again loading the bases, Ryan Ferremi was hit-by-pitch to make it 4-0.
- Miles Cota came in to pitch for the River Hawks with bases loaded and one out.
- Michael Maggio gave the Great Danes a five-run advantage with a fielder's choice to bring in Filippi.
- Fritz Genther scored the first run for UMass Lowell with a solo home run to left center, making it 5-1.
- Following back-to-back singles from Cooper Loyal and Levi McAllister to lead off the third inning, Ferremi was hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Loyal came in to score off a balk to extend UAlbany's lead, 6-1.
- In the fifth inning, LJ Keevan was brought in to pitch by the River Hawks.
- With runners on first and second, Maggio moved the runners into scoring position with a sac bunt. Vitucci drove in a run with a ground ball to second. Ferremi scored on a wild pitch, pushing the score to 8-1.
- UMass Lowell brought in Brain Foley from the pen in the sixth inning with a runner on second and first.
- With bases loaded, Binder crossed the plate on a wild pitch. McAllister earned a walk that saw another run come in, pushing the UAlbany lead to 10-1.
- The River Hawks called Cam Sime from the pen with bases loaded and no outs.
- The Great Danes brought in Kyle McCaffrey to start the eighth inning.
- Owen Hoyt came in to pitch for UMass Lowell in the ninth inning.
- UAlbany claimed victory in game two, winning 11-1.
