Head Coach Katie Thomson: "This was a great team win and effort.  Our draw unit was outstanding, extremely connected, and in sync, which gave our offense lots of possession time and opportunity to work together to create and attack.  Defensively, we were fundamentally sound and disciplined, and worked as a unit to disrupt Colgate's offensive looks, dictate the pace, and make stops.  We're so proud of the team's effort and hustle tonight."

How it Happened
  • The University at Albany women's lacrosse program continued its three-game road swing on Saturday, stopping at in-state rival Colgate for its middle opponent of the trip.  Both teams were winless on the season, through five games for UAlbany and through four games for Colgate.
  • Colgate got off to a hot start, scoring each of the game's first two goals over the course of the game's first six minutes.  It was not until 8:03 left in the first quarter that Katie Pascale put UAlbany on the board, scoring unassisted on a woman-up opportunity.
  • Allie Maloney scored her first of two goals on the afternoon less than a minute later to tie the game at two.  Colgate retook the lead, 3-2, 50 seconds after Maloney's score.
  • Bryar Hogg scored with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter, kicking off a six-goal run for the Great Danes lasting into the middle of the second quarter.  Pascale assisted on three of the six goals during the run.
  • Colgate scored with 6:54 on the clock in the second to briefly interrupt the Great Danes' streak, but Maloney and Ava Poupard scored once each to close the first half, and Mikaela Mooney continued the new streak four-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter to put UAlbany up 11-4 with 10:33 remaining in the period.
  • The Raiders' Josie Cavallo scored with 7:52 left in the third for Colgate's first goal of the second half, but Paisley Cook and Pascale scored back-to-back to give UAlbany a 13-5 lead.
  • After Colgate scored to close the third quarter, Pascale netted each of UAlbany's two goals in the fourth with 14:22 and 1:22 remaining, respectively, interrupted by one last goal from Colgate with 4:38 to go.  Pascale's final goal was unassisted and woman-down.
  • Pascale's 10 total points tie her second-highest individual game effort in her career, equaling her scoring from her game at New Hampshire on April 6, 2022 during her sophomore season, and trailing only her 12-point outing in the 2023 America East semifinal round against Binghamton, which still stands as a UAlbany single-game program record and America East Tournament single-game record.  Pascale has now scored nine or more points in a single game seven times in her career.
  • Collectively, UAlbany recorded a season-high in shots taken with 35, as well as a season high in scoring.  Haley Phalines recorded a career-high 11 draws in the circle, leading the Great Danes' 18-7 draws advantage over the Raiders.
Next: UAlbany visits #3 and defending national champion Northwestern on March 10.
