Short Story: Big innings proved costly as the University at Albany baseball team fell in both games of Sunday's doubleheader.

  • Will Binder highlighted the offense with two hits, including a double.
  • Jared Toby also hit a double and scored the only run for the Great Danes.
  • Luke Myers recorded the sole RBI.

How it Happened Game 1:
  • Luke Boule got the start for the Great Danes. Kyle Iwinski started for the Boilermakers.
  • Purdue looked to take control of the game in the bottom of the first. Luke Gaffney drove in two with a single up the middle. The Boilermakers then loaded the bases for Couper Cornblum who tripled to right field. Purdue tacked on two unearned runs from an error and a passed ball to take a 7-0 advantage.
  • After leading off the top of the second with a hit-by-pitch, Jared Toby came around to score following back-to-back singles by Ryan Ferremi and Cooper Loyal, making it 7-1.
  • Kyle McCaffrey was brought in to pitch for UAlbany in the second inning.
  • The Boilermakers loaded the bases to start the bottom of the third. Gaffney hit a single through the left side to score two. Logan Sutter followed up with a double down the third base line to bring in another run. Gaffney came around to score off a dropped flyball before Brody Chrisman hit a double to make it 13-1. Ty Gill added on with an RBI single through the right side.
  • Ryan Pittz came in to pitch in the fourth inning for UAlbany.
  • Carter Doorn was brought in to pitch by Purdue in the fifth.
  • Luke Filippi got on with a single and advanced to third thanks to a Will Binder hit. Mike Prisco brought him in with a fielder's choice to second, making it 14-2 in the fifth inning.
  • The Boilermakers brought in Enas Hayden to pitch in the sixth.
  • Player Crosby was brought in from the pen by the Great Danes in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Griffen Lohman came in to close the seventh inning for Purdue.
  • The Great Danes lead off the top of the seventh with Will Binder taking a hit-by-pitch and Mike Prisco following with a single. Binder scored on a throwing error. Thomas McElwee drove in another run with a line-drive single to reduce the difference to 14-4.
  • The Boilermakers called in Cal Lambert from the pen with two outs and a runner on third.  
  • Cooper Loyal hit a single through the right side to bring in Anthony Scarabino to keep the seventh inning alive. Ryan Ferremi crossed the plate on a passed ball, making it 14-6.
  • After loading the bases in the seventh, Purdue scored another run after earning a hit-by-pitch. Thomas Green walked it off with a hit-by-pitch with the Boilermakers winning 16-6.
 
How it Happened Game 2:
  • Kyle Locklear got the nod from UAlbany with Jonathan Blackwell getting the start for Purdue.
  • Jared Toby started the top of the third with a double. Luke Myers drove him in with a single to center field to take an early 1-0 advantage.
  • Purdue struck back in the bottom of the third. With a runner on second and third, Gasser hit a sac fly to tie the score. Connor Caskenette singled up the middle to score two. Jo Stevens extended the lead with a triple to right center to extend the Boilermakers' lead to 5-2.
  • Loading the bases to start the fourth. Gaffney hit a single to add another run to Purdue's lead.
  • UAlbany brought in Steven Turk with bases loaded and no outs.
  • Sutter followed with a double to clear the bases. Stutter came around to score to cap off a five-run inning, pushing the score to 10-1.
  • Cornblum lead-off the fifth with a triple before scoring on a sac fly to add to the Boilermakers' lead. Bolton reached base with a single and scored on a Gaffney triple, making it 12-1.
  • Davis Pratt came in to pitch for Purdue in the sixth inning.
  • The Great Danes brought in Cam Fuer to pitch in the sixth.
  • Easton Storey came in to pitch for the Boilermakers in the seventh.
  • Brayden Olson came in to close the game for Purdue midway through the seventh.
  • The Boilermakers won the contest, 12-1.
