#23 Women's Lacrosse Falls at #2 Boston College 15-7

Score: #2 Boston College 15, #23 UAlbany 7

Location: Fish Field House in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Records: UAlbany (0-2) | Boston College (2-0)

Short Story: The Great Danes use a 4-0 run to cut Boston College's lead to two in the third, but the Eagles pull away in the fourth to win 15-7.

Key Stats Head Coach Katie Thomson: "I'm really proud of our efforts all over the field today.  We fought hard and gave ourselves opportunities.  I thought our defense created chaos against a strong opposing offense, and Grace Cincebox was our backbone coming up with huge stops.  Our staff believes so much in this group; we'll learn, clean up some things, and keep moving forward."

How it Happened
  • The University at Albany women's lacrosse team's first game on the road featured a showdown against #2 and 2023 national runner up Boston College.  The game was delayed one day due to inclement weather in the Boston area.
  • Boston College got to work quickly, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes.  Grace McCauley, who finished as UAlbany's leading scorer on the afternoon, put the Great Danes on the board with 6:39 left in the first quarter.
  • The Eagles rolled off three more goals in less than three minutes to go up 6-1 at the end of the first quarter.  McCauley once more broke the Eagles scoring run, this time with 11:10 on the clock in the second.
  • Two more goals from Boston College gave the Eagles a five-goal lead with 4:08 remaining before halftime.  In the final 1:49 of the half, the Great Danes scored twice, first from Courtney Rowe and next from Bryar Hogg with 19 seconds on the clock to close within four at the break.
  • The Great Danes' run extended to 4-0 with two quick goals from Paisley Cook and Rowe in the first 2:15 of the second half, closing the Eagles' lead to just two.  Neither team was able to score for the next 11 minutes of game time.
  • Boston College closed the third quarter with two goals in the final 1:18 to rebuild their advantage to four.  Nearly six minutes passed in the fourth before the Eagles scored again to go up five.
  • McCauley scored her third and final goal of the game, also the Great Danes' last, with 7:39 on the clock in the fourth.  The Eagles closed the game on a 4-0 run to bring the final score to 15-7.
  • Though the Great Danes were outshot 39-18 during the game, 16 of UAlbany's 18 total shots were on target, forcing Boston College goalkeeper Shea Dolce to make nine stops.  In UAlbany's cage, Grace Cincebox recorded 11 saves.
  • UAlbany won 16 ground balls to Boston College's 14, but fell behind on the draw 16-9 overall.
Next: UAlbany visits Fairfield on February 17.
