Defensive Line 2024

Scouting Hampton

The Pirates are 5-6 coming into this weekend’s matchup following a 24-21 loss to Richmond last Saturday. The Pirates have lost three straight after starting the season 5-3.

The Hampton offense showcases two quarterbacks who have both played in all 11 games. Chris Zellous leads the two in completions (101) and yards (980), but Malcolm Mays has 10 touchdown passes. Zellous has only passed for three touchdowns but has rushed for six. Receiver Brennan Ridley is the team’s top target, recording 560 yards and four touchdowns on the year. On the ground, touches are split between three running backs: Ja’Quan Snipes has totaled 531 yards and six touchdowns, Elijah Burris has 489 yards and four touchdowns, and Tymere Robinson has 363 yards and seven touchdowns.

Defensively, 17 players have at least half a sack, and the team has 28 in total. Akie Nance leads the team with 4.5 on the season. Two players, Tre Everett III and Jordan White, have tallied multiple Interceptions.

Mental Health Awareness

UAlbany’s chapter of The Hidden Opponent (THO) will host a table at Saturday’s game to help spread awareness for student-athlete mental health. In addition, THO will be joined by UAlbany Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), Middle Earth, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

The Hidden Opponent is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and advocacy group that raises awareness for student-athlete mental health and addresses the stigma within sports culture.

?

The organization believes that all student-athletes should be able to speak openly about their mental health experiences without worrying about being judged or viewed as weak.

Food Frenzy

UAlbany's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be at the game this weekend collecting items for the annual America East food drive, Food Frenzy. Community support is appreciated as UAlbany teams compete against other schools in the America East. Donations that are collected will be taken to the Regional Food Bank in Albany.

Play Like AJ

The team will honor former Great Dane Amitral "AJ" Simon during the 2024 season with a special number dedication in each game.

In April of 2024, while preparing for the NFL Draft, Simon was tragically taken from us – sending shockwaves through both the UAlbany and football communities.

Before each contest in 2024, the UAlbany coaching staff will designate one defensive player to wear the number eight jersey, in game, to honor their fallen brother. The individual chosen will be one who best exemplifies Simon's work ethic and preparation in that week's practices. The football program will announce their selection on Thursdays leading up to games.

This Saturday, Dasean Dixon will have the special honor of wearing #8 in game for the second time this season.
