Hall of Fame Spotlight: Frank Resetarits

ALBANY, N.Y. – For the five weeks leading up to the UAlbany Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2023 Enshrinement Ceremony on September 29, the Department will profile each of the four individual and one team inductee in this year's class.  Today's feature is Frank Resetarits.

A keystone of the University at Albany men's lacrosse program's initial ascension to the national stage, Frank Resetarits is the third inductee to the UAlbany Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Resetarits arrived at UAlbany for the 2004 season, one year after the Great Danes secured their first-ever America East title.  In his four years, UAlbany won three America East championships.

What distinguishes Resetarits and his teams from the early success of the program was the 2007 season, in which the Great Danes secured their first-ever victory in the NCAA Tournament, defeating Loyola at home in the First Round, 19-10.  Afterwards, in the quarterfinals, UAlbany took four-seed Cornell to the wire, falling 12-11 in overtime.  In the Great Danes' four postseason games in 2007, Resetarits scored 11 goals and added four assists.

The 2007 season saw Resetarits become both the program's first-ever All-America First Team selection and Tewaaraton Award finalist, recognizing the most outstanding player in college lacrosse in that season.  The America East Player of the Year finished the year with 57 goals, 23 assists, and 80 total points, leading the Great Danes in all three categories.  Upon his graduation, Resetarits played professionally in both the MLL and NLL.

To this day, Resetarits ranks fifth in program history in goals scored and total points, and ninth in assists.

UAlbany men's lacrosse coach Scott Marr has overseen the careers of numerous star players and All-Americans, among whom Resetarits still stands out:

"Frank's impact on our program was immediate.  He stepped into a top offensive role as a freshman.  He was a creator as well as a finisher right from the get-go and had sustained dominance for his four years.

One of the biggest goals of his career came in the America East semifinal in 2004, in overtime against UMBC, which led to a conference title.  In 2007, his senior year, he led the way with five goals against Johns Hopkins in an 8-7 victory which propelled us to a #2 national ranking.  And in that senior year, he was our first Tewaaraton Award finalist.

Frank set the standard, with Luke DaQuino and Merrick Thomson, on what it means to be an attackman at UAlbany."

Thomson, Resetarits' teammate of four years and now UAlbany men's lacrosse associate head coach, had a front-row seat to Resetarits' career:

"Frank is one of the most impressive lacrosse players our program has ever seen. He had size and IQ, was a great passer, and could score at an elite level.  To me, Frank is on the Mount Rushmore of UAlbany lacrosse attackmen."

Siena men's lacrosse head coach Liam Gleason also shared the field with Resetarits:

"I'm absolutely thrilled for Frank.  He truly embodied the qualities of an exceptional teammate and captain.  Frank consistently brought the best out of his teammates, both on and off the field.  My personal growth as a player wouldn't have been possible without his leadership.  His legacy as one of UAlbany's best to ever put on the uniform makes him more than deserving of being inducted into the UAlbany Athletics Hall of Fame."

The enshrinement ceremony for the Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will take place on September 29 starting at 6:00 pm at the Crowne Plaza-Desmond Hotel in Albany.  Cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 pm followed by a buffet dinner with the induction program at 7:30 pm.  The event is open to the public, and tickets for attendance are $75 for adults and $50 for children under 12.  Registration for the evening is available HERE.
