How it Happened
- The University at Albany women's lacrosse program played its fourth of five games on the road Saturday with a trip to UMass Lowell. The teams shared matching 5-5 overall records this season, but UAlbany had won its only game so far against an America East opponent, while the River Hawks had dropped each of their first two.
- UAlbany opened the game on a 4-0 scoring run powered by each of the team's top three scorers. Sarah Falk scored just 26 seconds into the game, followed by a pair from Shonly Wallace 40 seconds apart, and the run closed with Katie Pascale. Bryar Hogg, UAlbany's fourth-leading scorer, assisted on the first two goals of the game.
- UMass Lowell closed the first quarter with back-to-back goals before Hogg found net herself to start the second. Two more goals from UMass Lowell closed the River Hawks to within 5-4 with 7:36 on the clock before Allie Maloney scored to put UAlbany back up by two.
- With 4:48 left in the second, UMass Lowell closed back within one, before the Great Danes rolled off four-straight in the final 3:47 to close the first half with a 9-5 lead. The run grew to 5-0, and the lead to 11-5, when Wallace scored to start the third quarter.
- UMass Lowell ended UAlbany's run at five, before two more goals, unassisted from Courtney Rowe and Wallace, put UAlbany up 13-6 with 7:38 left in the third. The River Hawks scored with 3:48 left in the quarter, but UAlbany once again closed out the period strong, scoring three goals in the final three minutes to take a 16-7 lead.
- Pascale scored early in the fourth, capping UAlbany's latest run at four, and putting UAlbany up 17-7. UMass Lowell began to rally, scoring each of the next six to close within four, 17-13 with 3:25 remaining. UAlbany ended the River Hawks' rally attempt, when Madison Jones and Emma Torkoff each scored their first goals of the season with 1:13 and 0:30 left on the clock, respectively, to give UAlbany a 19-13 victory.
- UAlbany outshot UMass Lowell 31-23 overall, including 18-8 combined in the first and third quarters. The Great Danes also won big on the draw, coming away with 26 of 35, with Pascale leading the way with 11 of her own.
