Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team fell to the University of Maryland, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon after a pitching duel between the two schools. The Great Danes were limited to just one hit all afternoon, while the pitching staff limited the Terps to just four runs.

Head Coach Jon Mueller: "We struggled offensively today. Give credit to Maryland and their arms, they were difficult to solve. The defense was outstanding all weekend and all four guys threw well against a very potent lineup."

Key Stats:
  • UAlbany Pitchers:
  • Chris Fisher collected the only hit for the Great Danes, a double down the left field line in the second inning.
  • Will Feil was the only other batter to get on base, a walk in the first inning.
  • Ryan Pittz and Rob Manetta both tossed an inning each, with neither pitcher allowing a hit.
  • UAlbany finished with one hit, one walk, nine strikeouts, and left two men on base.

How it Happened:
  • Thomas Quinn started on the mound for UAlbany, Kyle McCoy started for the Terps.
  • Maryland gained the lead in the second inning. Shliger doubled down the left field line to bring in the first run of the game before Lorusso singled through the right side to make it 2-0.
  • Ryan Pittz took the mound for UAlbany to start the fourth inning.
  • Nicholas Jessen replaced Pittz for UAlbany in the fifth.
  • Nate Haberthier came in to pitch for Maryland to start the sixth.
  • Maryland's Matt Shaw made it 4-0 with one swing of the bat in the seventh, a two-run home run.
  • Rob Manetta took the mound for UAlbany in the eighth.
