CLEVELAND – The University at Albany Department of Athletics has been presented three awards, two gold and one bronze, in the 2021-22 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators' (NACMA) "Best Of" Awards.
"We're thrilled and appreciative to have been recognized by the NACMA leadership with multiple awards for our efforts during the 2021-22 season," said Assistant Athletic Director of External Relations Griffith Hunter. “The NACMA Awards are a great litmus test each year for our external staff to see if our hard work and creativity had been successful in engaging our fans and creating a better overall fan experience. Anytime you win an award, it’s confirmation that we did succeed in attaining our goals. I’m proud of our team for this accomplishment.”
Initiated in 2003, the NACMA "Best Of" Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 16 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. UAlbany competes in Group 2, encompassing all non-FBS Division I institutions.
First, the department won gold in the Revenue-Producing Video category for the Men’s Basketball commercial highlighting the 2021-22 home opener against Towson. The inspiration for the commercial was to continue to introduce men’s basketball Head Coach Dwayne Killings to the Capital Region, enhance the team’s brand of “MENTALITY” and increase attendance at the event. The 2021-22 home opener was only the second opening night sellout over the last 20 years. The Great Danes saw a record turnout from campus as over 2,600 students attended the game.
