Great Danes Win Final Game Against River Hawks

Short Story: The University at Albany baseball team picked up an 11-4 victory in the team's series finale against UMass Lowell thanks to two big five-run innings. Connor Eisenmann pitched eight strong innings for the Great Danes, John Daly hit three doubles in four at-bats, driving in two runs and Johnny Marti collected a team-high three RBIs.

Head Coach Jon Mueller: "Connor Eisenmann really picked us up and the offense produced multiple big innings. Playing the last game of a series down 0-2 is the biggest challenge of a weekend. The team responded in a big way."

  • Connor Eisenmann pitched eight full innings, allowing just four runs.
  • Johnny Marti led the Great Danes offensively. He went 1-3 with a walk and picked up three RBIs.
  • John Daly finished 3-4 with three doubles. He drove in two runs and scored one himself. 
  • Will Binder went 3-5 with one double, two RBIs and two scored runs.

How it Happened:
  • Connor Eisenmann started on the mound for the Great Danes, Joshua Becker started for the River Hawks.
  • UAlbany got on the board first in the top of the opening inning when Johnny Marti hit a sac fly to right field, driving in Brad Malm who singled to get on base.
  • UMass Lowell took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. A triple by Alex Luccini scores Robert Gallagher and Luccini scored himself on an RBI single by Jacob Humphrey.
  • The Great Danes loaded the bases with no out in the top of the fourth and knocked in five runs, taking a 6-2 lead. Carson Dunkel singled up the middle, scoring Michael Whalen, Will Binder hit a two-run single to right field to bring home Jason Bottari and Will Feil, Malm grounded out to short but scored Dunkel and Binder crossed home off a double to left-center by John Daly.
  • Brendan Holland took the mound for the River Hawks halfway through the fourth. 
  • UML got a run back in the bottom of the same inning as Luccini scored Gallagher with an RBI single.
  • The Great Danes added two runs in the top of the fifth to earn an 8-3 lead when both Feil and Josh Loeffler hit solo home runs.
  • Brian Gaughan replaced Holland midway through the fifth. 
  • The scoring in the top of the fifth didn't stop tough. Daly's third double of the game drove in Binder who also doubled to get into scoring position and a two-run single by Marti allowed Malm and Daly to reach home base.
  • UMass Lowell made another pitching change at the beginning of the sixth when Sal Fusco entered the game.
  • The River Hawks plated their fourth run in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single by Ryan Proto who scored Luccini.
  • Matt Draper came in to pitch for UML in the ninth.
  • Rob Manetta took the mound for the Great Danes in the bottom of the ninth.
